"Northeast people always admired a decisive PM" ::::: Breaking silence on Manipur violence, Jamir, says 'rule of law' should prevail

"Northeast people have always admired a decisive PM"

New Delhi

Terming the continued unrest in Manipur as "sad", veteran Naga leader S C Jamir on Sunday said, "What is happening in Manipur is painful".  "I do not want to speak much on Manipur violence. Any kind of violence is to be condemned. This is a continuous spree of violence and hence today I am more concerned because a central minister's house has been attacked twice. It is sad," the former Chief Minister said.

"I should not speak much because matter of propriety is there. It is another state...and the issues involved are very sensitive". To a question, he told this newspaper, "I have served as Nagaland Chief Minister for a number of years and have been Governor in four states. All these states are also close to my heart. As someone believing in nationalistic politics, affairs of entire north east always concerned me. Therefore, what is happening in Manipur is painful".

To another question, he said, "The central Government should take more concrete and result oriented steps. People in the region still have immense faith in Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Politically people in north east have always admired a decisive Prime Minister and I am sure they will continue to do so".

Asked to comment on Naga peace talks, Jamir said, "The delay in finalising Naga peace talks is unwarranted. This is the best opportunity to work for Solution and give a positive message."

Otherwise, he cautioned, "....there are players who can add to the confusion and exploit the Nagas of Nagaland as they have been doing over the years".

##  "I am your MP," Mizo lawmaker assures Kukis

Lone Rajya Sabha member from Mizoram K. Vanlalvena of BJP ally MNF has assured the violence-hit Kuki population

“Different tribes of Mizo ethnic community in Manipur may think that they don’t have any Member of Parliament of their own. I want to let them know that I am their MP," Vanlalvena said.

He said though the centre is "not siding with any particular community";  but added it seems the government of Jndia is "not interested in bringing peace o the ethnic strife Manipur".

The Mizo MP had earlier submitted a memorandum to Prime Minister Narendra Modi asking the latter to constitute a Joint Parliamentary team which would include Christian MPs to study various incidents that took place in Manipur since May 3.

Meanwhile, Mizoram government sources said that in view of threat from an Assam-based Meitei organisation, security in Mizoram House at Silchar has been beefed up.

"Any person entering Mizoram

House complex at Silchar has to show his identity card to duty officer and declare

his/her purpose of entering to the satisfaction of duty officer," an official source said.

Silchar-based All Assam Manipuri Youth’s Association (AAMYA) in Cachar district on Wednesday threatened to launch ‘some serious moves’ if the ruling Mizo National Front (MNF) in Mizoram did not withdraw its support to the separate administration in Manipur for the minority Kuki-Zo community.

Homage to martyrs who sacrificed lives for 'Manipur's integrity' on June 18, 2001.
