NPF, others condemn 'death threats' to Rosemary Dzuvichu :::: "...allowing such criminal intimidation to go unchecked will seek to silence women’s voices"

The Naga People's Front (NPF) has strongly condemned the 'death threat' and alleged derogatory statements directed against popular Naga women leader Dr Rosemary Dzuvichu.

Describing the episode as 'cowardly' act, the NPF statement said the party views such conducts as "morally unacceptable" and also a serious criminal offence.

It warned that allowing such criminal intimidation to go unchecked would embolden those seeking to silence women’s voices and undermine progress in Nagaland.

It urged the state government and concerned authorities to take "swift and decisive action" to trace the origin of the threatening and defamatory posts. In a Facebook post earlier, Rosemary Dzuvichu wrote:

"Received a death threat message meant for me on a Facebook Naga group a few hours ago. A warning to me and young and old feminists who have stood for women reservation.

I have lived and stood through many death threats on my life all these years of the struggle for holding the long over due Municipal elections in Nagaland and reservation of seats for women.

Municipal elections have been held, more than a hundred women now sit in the Urban Local Bodies in the state through their constitutional rights and the ruling of the Supreme Court.

Women's rights are human rights and many of us have faced hatred, defamation and threats to see our women step into these decision making bodies. Killing me with a bullet will not stop Naga women articulating about their rights."

Meanwhile, in a telephonic interview with a news channel, Ms Dzüvichü asserted:  “I am not going to take it lying down. Why should I allow someone to come and put a bullet through me for an issue that is already in place in the state and is a state policy?

To target us for women reservation at this stage and to threaten all feminists as he calls it and to put a bullet through all of us...are unacceptable.”
