Dr Sudha Yadav from Haryana is also said to be in the race for BJP national president.
She served as a member of the 13th Lok Sabha from 1994 until 2004 from Mahendragarh, Haryana.
The election or elevation of BJP national president in close coordination with the RSS will have to be in sync with the party’s focus on election-bound states and southern India.
The party also wants continued outreach towards the women, the scheduled castes, scheduled tribes and OBCs.
On August 17, 2022, Sudha Yadav became a member of the Parliamentary Board of the BJP. She is the second woman to hold the position in party's highest policy making body after Late Sushma Swaraj.
In July 2015, she was also appointed the National In-Charge of the BJP OBC Morcha.
She served as a member of the National Commission for Backward Classes for the government of India from 2019 to 2022.
Dr Sudha Yadav |
In 2022, when Sudha Yadav was included in the BJP Parliamentary Board; Union minister and ex BJP chief Nitin Gadkari and the then Madhya Pradesh CM Shivraj Singh Chouhan were dropped.
Union minister Sarbananda Sonowal from Assam and former Karnataka chief minister B S Yediyurappa were among the six new members.
Both Modi and Amit Shah have been reposing faith in Sudha Yadav since then.
Union Power Minister and former Haryana CM Manoharlal Khattar was said to be original choice of PM Modi. Khattar is a former RSS pracharak.
Amit Shah has been reportedly favouring Bhupendra Yadav even when Nadda was made the national president by the Prime Minister.
Karnataka BJP leader and Union Minister Prahlad Joshi is also being considered as the saffron outfit is laying emphasis on a growth graph and deeper penetration for the “Mission South” plan.
Joshi worked as Parliamentary Affairs Minister in the previous Lok Sabha and enjoys confidence of both PM Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah. Joshi is known for his electoral strategies and managing party affairs well.
Other prominent names include Arun Singh and Tarun Chugh (both national general secretaries) and people with strong RSS links.
Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan and Bhupindra Yadav are also in the race.
If Yadav is given the responsibility, it will certainly send a strong message ahead of the Bihar assembly election, where the Yadav community plays a crucial role in deciding the electoral outcome in about 80 constituencies.
Bhupendra Yadav has played a key role in formulating electoral strategies for several state elections, including those in Maharashtra (2024), Uttar Pradesh (2017), and Bihar (2020).
Announcement may be made after PM's return from abroad

BJP : Now under Modi-Shah duo |
Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman and Vanathi Srinivasan may not be ruled out too.
The BJP has reportedly shortlisted the candidates for the prized post and the final selection is expected to take place after July 10.
The Monsoon session of parliament begins on July 21.
Incumbent BJP chief J P Nadda's term ended in January 2023, but the party extended his tenure until June 2024 Lok Sabha elections. He is now Union Health Minister.
Nirmala Sitharaman’s elevation could help the BJP expand its footprint in southern India. Her leadership would also reflect the party's alignment with the proposed 33 per cent reservation for women.
Ms Sitharaman has previously served as Union Commerce and Defence Minister.
The rise of Ms Sitharaman after 2014 Lok Sabha polls when Modi became Prime Minister coincided with the rise of another woman leader Smriti Irani. The timing also marked the beginning of a new chapter in the respective political graphs of Uma Bharati and Sushma Swaraj.
