Status quo club in Nagaland wages 'war' against Peace parleys using unconventional weapons :::: RPP 'tricked' to target A K Mishra, sabotage concrete progress in talks

Success is all about momentum.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his government will have to keep that spirit in mind and action while pursuing the most decisive period of the concluding stage of negotiations to resolve the Naga issue.

Under the Congress party for decades, the Govt of India was too slow and often gullible to know its enemies.

These days mandarins in India's capital are smart enough to understand the right messages.

I know of movers and shakers in the corridors of power who can 'pull out' the messages from the chaos of information. This is an era when 'war' is waged more often without conventional weapons. A statement has been issued by the Rising People’s Party (RPP).

Run by a failed politician, this time RPP has seemingly jumped into the lap of Status Quo club of Nagaland.

Or is the party doing the bidding for one of 'key faces' -- a permanent face in the corridors of power at Kohima? Obviously we are not referring to the longest serving Chief Minister of the northeastern region.

It may not be wise to draw any conclusion at this juncture. But the statement from the RPP was typically void, motivated and personal and thus it only reflects the jaundiced view.

It reflects the old and sick mindset.

The RPP could have easily said -- "No non-Naga should interfere in Naga affairs".

Now whether the statement was inspired from Moscow, Wokha or Ukhrul in neighbouring Manipur could be another issue of guess-making game.

But the intent is clear -- stall the Naga peace talks once again.

The statement says that former interlocutor RN Ravi has 'deepened divisions within the Naga society' by first discarding the Framework Agreement and promoting the Agreed Position, which it said created internal fissures.

This is where RPP stands exposed.

The problem is not with A K Mishra or X,Y,Z. The real problem is with the progress in parleys and a concrete decision being taken to put the Naga talks on the fast track.

The luxury of ceasefire and stalemate in negotiations only served ulterior motives of the vested interest. This club is now drawing cold feet. The carpet underneath cushioned by gross extortion, corruption and nexus with power that be will be now pulled.

Veteran S C Jamir stands vindicated today as on a number of occasions, he had cautioned both PM Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah that to expect '100 per cent endorsement' to the proposed Naga agreement will be erroneous.

The RPP did not apply its 'own mind' while drafting the statement. Apparently, it has taken 'dictations' from multiple sources -- including from Moscow.

In its statement, the state-based signboard party urged A K Mishra to refrain from making what it described as “monthly trips” to the state, claiming that his visits drained public resources while failing to advance the stalled Naga peace process.

“An astute person like Mr Mishra should excuse himself from making monthly trips to the state just to excite some gullible minds because neither he nor the Government of India has any intention of resolving the Naga issue,” the statement read.

Here the smartness has left the RPP and 'brains' behind the statement well exposed.

Firstly, within minutes the news spread about the successful conduct of the meeting on July 17th near Dimapur when six NSCN factions essentially from two blocs met, the social media campaign started that what Mishra has been trying to achieve (and tell) is only rhetoric.

At least a good number of  sitting legislators are also nervous over the possibilities that the state assembly may be dissolved much before its scheduled timing of expiry in March 2028.

Personally, this blogger sympathises with the honourable MLAs (a few being personal acquaintances and friends) because they have invested huge amount during elections in 2023. A few could make up only a slice of the expenditures; others were expecting 'crumbs' in the form of a possible cabinet reshuffle as promised to them.

For instance, refer to the NCP MLAs mass merger with the NDPP.  The Bolero travels are yet to materialise.

The RPP as a party had a good reputation of issuing timely statements on some of the complex issues confronting the state.

Statuo Quo Club in Nagaland is like Sickular gang

But this time around its past failures in electoral politics might have worked.

The Status Quo club in Nagaland and their well connected networks in Manipur, the RPP and also all the 60 MLAs including Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio and two deputy CMs T R Zeliang and Y Patton need to be told (reminded) what Home Minister Amit Shah told Nagaland Ministers in November 2024 when they tried to request for replacement of Mishra as the peace emissary.

Amit Shah was point blank -- Do not blame R N Ravi (now Tamil Nadu Governor) or A K Mishra. They are only doing (and telling) what the Government of India wants them to do or say.

The RPP statement would have sounded more genuine has it pressed for expediting the talks process or demand that there should be a time-bound action plan.

The wild charges and cheap references to Mishra's visit that these are proving costly for the government exchequer only show the frustration of the Status Quo club.

A K Mishra does not visit Nagaland or any other state in the northeast on his own. At least those who know the functioning style of the Modi government will understand this simple fact.

The Status Quo Club in Nagaland is like Sickularism gang of national polity. They have friends, sympathisers and sponsors in every political party and other branches of the society.

This blogger would not have been surprised had the statement from the RPP actually had come from the Congress party in Nagaland.

Apparently, the Congress high command wanted the RPP to flag off the issues as mentioned in the statement. And now subsequently the grand old party or even armed-chair experts and quiz masters in Trinamool Congress may now take it up in Parliament.

Rahul Gandhi is ever ready to declare that as India's defence and foreign policies have failed under Modi. So is the Amit Shah's handling of Kashmir or the situation in Manipur and Nagaland. Merits and logic have never influenced political rhetoric of the Congress party in the last decade.

The RPP has been apparently misused by a few smart behind the scene operators.

All these should be lessons for the BJP high command as they trusted wrong political stakeholders since 2018.

This development is again a reminder that President's Rule in Nagaland should come sooner than later.

The road to salvation is via Solution. The Modi-Shah duo therefore now has the historic task of turning Status Quo club into a neo-frustration club.
