Two Naga MPs including NPF's Pfoze from Manipur back Women Quota: "There is a lot of disparity in Nagaland in respect of delimitation"

"There is a lot of disparity in the State of Nagaland in respect of delimitation," says Tokheho Yepthomi of NDPP while backing the much talked about Women Reservation Bill.

"....... very soon, there is going to be delimitation in Arunachal Pradesh and Nagaland. I want to know whether women's reservation is going to be implemented in those States where delimitation has been completed or due to be completed," he said in Lok Sabha.

He further said, "... Or do they have to wait for other States to implement this reservation? Lastly, I want to bring to the notice of the hon. Home Minister that since 1974, delimitation has not been there in Nagaland. During 2020-21, there was a proposal to have delimitation in Assam and Arunachal Pradesh along with Jammu and Kashmir, but because of a litigation, delimitation could not take place there.

"For the last 50 years when there was no delimitation, out of 60
constituencies, some constituencies have even one lakh voters, while some constituencies have less than 10,000 voters. There is a lot of disparity in the State of Nagaland in respect of delimitation. Therefore, I would like to ask hon. Law Minister one thing," said lone Nagaland MP.

As and when this Bill is passed and the hon. President gives her assent, when is this Bill likely to be implemented? I think a time bound
schedule should be given.

Once again, I am asking whether this reservation will be implemented in those States where delimitation has been completed.

"On behalf of my Party, NDPP, and on behalf of my hon. Chief Minister, Shri Neiphiu Rio, I fully support the Bill for 33 per cent reservation for women," he said.

Lorho Pfoze is NPF lawmaker from Outer Manipur.

"Empowerment is the need of the hour in this age. My Party, the Naga People's Front (NPF) supports this Bill," he said.

"For equality and participation of women in all developmental and
decision-making processes of the nation, women are equally gifted as men to deliver," he said.

Pfoze further said, "Meira Paibis who are the torch bearers for women's associations of  various communities amongst the tribals have played a great role in preventing atrocities and attacks on human rights by armed forces and social cleansing by staging prohibition campaign against alcohol and drugs at local village levels.

"Good governance at villages have also been propagated by women force in those States."

The phrase 'Meira Paibis' in Meitei means - "Women torch bearers".
