Cockroach Janta Party’s (CJP) ‘Lehra Do Tiranga’ protest in Delhi has taken a dramatic turn with founder Abhijeet Dipke and AISA President Neha Bora being taken into preventive custody ahead of the planned march at Connaught Place’s Central Park.
The fresh wave of protests on Friday, Oct 16th, by the youth-led movement - supported by Opposition parties and allegedly sponsored by overseas forces - has been met with a brutal crackdown and preventive arrests.
Two of the prominent faces have been imprisoned for five days for violating suppression measures.
The protests, which began over frustration about education and unemployment, are now focused on demand for resignation of the Chief Election Commissioner. Technically, even the Govt or the President ask Gyanesh Kumar to resign.
Under law, he can only be impeached.
The government and EC have denied 'unfounded claims' they have been seeking to disenfranchise millions of voters.
On Oct 15th, two prominent protesting voice Prashant Bhushan and Neha Bora have hinted at regime change. Ms Bora even has said that she and other protesters have drawn inspiration from the '2024 Model' of Bangladesh protest.
CJP Protest : 150 protesters detained so far
Former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M K Stalin (of DMK) questioned the whereabouts of CJP founder Abhijeet Dipke and AISA leader Neha Bora amid the ongoing protests in Delhi.
In a post on X, Stalin said detaining them without disclosing their whereabouts was “blatantly illegal and deeply inhumane”. He called on the Union government to release them immediately and stop suppressing peaceful protests. Stalin also warned that attempts to crush the movement would only make it stronger.
BJP spokesman and MP Sudhanshu Trivedi said:
"On one hand, our growth rate is increasing, reaching 7 percent; on the other hand, various forces are actively trying to obstruct the momentum of India’s economy.
I would like to tell all the youth of the country to proceed with great caution. Whether they are participating in these protests or are involved in other ways, they must realize that they should not become pawns for anyone. All of this is part of a large-scale international conspiracy and a malicious scheme; we have seen how your emotions were exploited...".
Sudhanshu Trivedi also said:
"As the parties within the 'INDI' alliance and the dwindling Leftist parties face a continuous erosion of public support and a persistent moral decline—leaving them with no foreseeable prospect of political success—terms like 'regime change'—implying the overthrow of a government through conspiracies, violent conflict, and collusion with foreign powers—have begun to surface in Indian politics...
We wish to clarify: a change of government through elections is a democratic process, whereas "regime change" refers to an attempt to topple a government through conspiracies and violent conflict".
"...Regarding the handful of people who turned up at Connaught Place, the outer circle is known as 'Indira Chowk,' and the inner circle is called 'Rajiv Chowk.' Surely, the late Indira Gandhi and the late Rajiv Gandhi—looking down from above—must be hanging their heads in shame at the current state of affairs, where these groups could not even gather more than a mere handful of people...".
"Today, that part of Delhi—Central Delhi—serves as a primary hub for commercial activity during this festive season, not just for Delhi, but for the surrounding states as well.
"Could it be that there is a conspiracy afoot to disrupt India's economy by staging protests in this very area?
"I believe the youth of this country should also clearly understand that the movement which, just 3-4 months ago, claimed its sole objective was to reform the examination system and entrance exams, is now openly engaged in a conspiracy to dismantle and inflict damage upon the nation's economy".
