Time to act ... Modi Govt is 'firm' .... this assertiveness is an asset :::: To counter US, New Delhi must focus on indigenous innovation in AI and semiconductors ::: India cannot appear look weak !!

This is a challenging times and the country should be united.

Trump's "penalty" move aimed to wean India away from Russia

India must focus on indigenous innovation, particularly in semiconductors, AI and aerospace.

Programmes like the National Semiconductor Mission and partnerships with tech-friendly nations like Japan and South Korea may be enhanced to reduce dependence on US technology.

Pakistan angle is also crucial as India is trying to navigate and come out of the present challenge - considered the worst crisis between world's largest democracy and the most powerful democracy.

This will test India’s foreign policy strengths and weaknesses. The question remains how will New Delhi tread a path to "grow" with the US and deliver infora such as Quad and at the same time it upholds strong ties with Russia -- a key defence and trade partner for New Delhi.

India is different and it should continue to be.

Take Pakistan as an example.

The leadership oth civil and military there are known for 'slavish' behaviour.

In the 1950s, when President General Ayub Khan visited the US, he told the Americans: “The Pakistan Army is your army.”

That meant .. Pakistan was more than keen  to become America’s unquestioning vassal.

The Pakistani Army chief Asim Munir will attend the farewell of US Central Command Commander General Michael Kurilla, who had called Pakistan a 'phenomenal partner' in counter-terrorism.

Is this a joke ?

Donald Trump's penalty move might be seen as a measure to rein in the Russia's revenues from its crude oil and arms sale and force Russia to end the Ukraine war.

MEA Spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal has rightly said:

“India and the United States share a comprehensive global strategic partnership anchored in shared interests, democratic values, and robust people-to-people ties.

This partnership has weathered several transitions and challenges.

We remain focused on the substantive agenda that our two countries have committed to and are confident that the relationship will continue to move forward.”

**

India and the United States could be now on the cusp of engineering a new relationship. It could be even like the cold war days.

Forget economic partnership or increased market access and investments.

The dynamism is already missing. Trust gone and so is the strategic logic that have driven bilateral ties for nearly three decades.

According to Robert Rogowsky, a professor of international trade at the Middlebury Institute of International Studies at Monterey, he is expecting a “very creative diplomacy” in the near term.

However, it goes without stating that India has an image of its own.

A different image it did not have even in the early nineties. Narendra Modi has his own local standing in Indian politics. The image of a macho leader.

India today doesn’t want to look weak or rather it cannot appear look weak.

Bharat will have to hold its own. The Modi Govt thus will maintain that its national security and national interests will drive both its foreign policy as well as the trade policy.

On the other hand in Terroristan - that is Pakistan; -- different work ethics work. There is a mix of gross sycophancy, good talks, offering lavish welcome to American guests and then the well-established duplicity and betrayal.

After 9/11 they assured the Americans of help with fighting the Taliban and yet for two decades they were helping the Taliban kill American soldiers. In fact, senior Pakistani officials privately claim they defeated the Americans via proxy.

But the Americans do not mind that. Trump is now ready to play ball with the rogue Islamic nation.

India will go by reason and transparency.

Elon Musk has long wanted to increase his commercial presence in India. Finally, that wish may be realised with Tesla and Starlink poised to enter the Indian market.

Tesla, the prolific electric vehicle (EV) maker, appears ready for the Indian market.

The belated entry of Tesla and Starlink points to a larger shift in India’s political economy and its partnership with the US. In terms of political economy, it would have come as a surprise that India’s two dominant telecommunication and wireless companies – Jio and Airtel – are shepherding Starlink’s entry into the Indian market.
