Amit Shah downplays Dhankhar episode : “Dhankhar ji was on a constitutional post and he did good work" :: Shah Mocks Rahul Gandhi on anti-corruption Bills

Amit Shah mocks Rahul Gandhi --- Says :

Three mega defeats changed Congress leader's moral stance

Home Minister Amit Shah drew a sharp contrast between LoP Rahul Gandhi's past and present positions on bills (or laws) related to corruption.

Recalling the 2013 gory episode when Rahul Gandhi had publicly rejected and torn an ordinance introduced by then Manmohan Singh's cabinet; Shah said:

"Morality standards are not connected with victory or loss in elections. They should be steady like the Sun and the Moon".

"Why did Rahul Ji tear up the ordinance that Manmohan Singh brought to protect Lalu Ji? If there was morality that day, then what happened now? Just because you have lost three consecutive elections?," he told ANI news agency in an interview.

The ordinance brought by the Manmohan Singh Govt had sought to 'protect' convicted lawmakers, a move widely believed to benefit RJD leader Lalu Prasad Yadav.

The RJD was UPA constituent and the ordinance route was taken by the Manmohan Singh government to help the tainted RJD leader and former Bihar chief minister.

The comparison is crucial in terms of perception war as Bihar polls are round the corner.

Rahul had negated the ordinance and tried to project himself as a crusader against corruption. But in now he is busy trying to woo voters in Bihar alongside RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav, son of Lalu Prasad Yadav.

On Jagdeep Dhankhar epsiode ---

'Should not try to stretch too much': Amit Shah

While Opposition parties and the media are constantly speculating about the reasons for Jagdeep Dhankhar's unprecedented resignation, Shah said --

“Dhankhar ji was sitting on a constitutional post and during his tenure, he did good work according to the constitution. He has resigned due to his personal health problem.

One should not try to stretch it too much and find something".

In a surprise move, Dhankhar announced his resignation on the first day of the Monsoon session of parliament.

He stepped aside two years to go for the end of his five-year tenure.

“Dhankhar ji’s resignation letter itself made it clear that he resigned due to his health issues. He has expressed gratitude to ministers and the Prime Minister for having a good tenure,” Shah said.

There was wide speculation about his resignation largely due to his proximity with the Congress leaders and taking steps as the chairman of the Raja Sabha contrary to Govt's official position.

Shah further said: “It seems like the explanation on what’s true or not is based on what the Opposition says”.

The former Vice President had an “unscheduled” meeting with President Draupadi Murmu at Rashtrapati Bhavan hours before his resignation.

Now, the stage is set for election to the post of Vice President on on September 9.

Maharashtra Governor C P Radhakrishnan, an OBC leader from Tamil Nadu and a former RSS leader,  is the ruling BJP-led NDA’s candidate, while Justice (Retd) B Sudershan Reddy is the opposition’s pick for the election.
