Day and night operations displayed India's combat readiness
The Indian Air Force (IAF) on Friday, May 1, carried out its much-anticipated "land and go" drill on a 3.5-km stretch of the Ganga Expressway in Uttar Pradesh’s Shahjahanpur district.
The exercise showcased an unprecedented display of air power and precision flying, reports 'India Today'.
The first-of-its-kind drill featured a fleet of frontline aircraft, including the Rafale, Sukhoi-30 MKI, MiG-29, Mirage-2000, Jaguar, AN-32 transport aircraft, the C-130J Super Hercules, and MI-17 helicopters.
Through a mix of practice runs and live demonstrations, the Air Force exhibited both combat capability and disaster response readiness during the exercise.
The drill featured low fly-pasts and a range of landing and take-off manoeuvres, carried out in two phases to assess operational readiness in both day and night conditions.
The aerial spectacle — punctuated by the deafening roar of engines and precise manoeuvres — left the gathered crowds awestruck. Residents from nearby villages and hundreds of schoolchildren watched in amazement as aircraft cut through the sky in choreographed formations.
Live commentary throughout the show offered explanations of each aircraft's role and technical features, turning the display into an immersive experience.
A standout moment came after sundown, when the IAF conducted a rare night landing demonstration between 9 pm and 10 pm.
The operation underscored the force’s advanced night-flying proficiency and left the crowd spellbound.
