Post Ceasefire !! India- Pakistan military-level talks get underway ::: Rajnath, Ajit Doval meet PM in presence of three service chiefs

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh rushed to 7 Lok Kalyan Marg, the official residence, of Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday (May 12th) for an important high-level meeting.

All three tri-service chiefs also attended the review meeting.

India- Pak military-level talks begin

While announcing ceasefire on May 10 (Saturday) foreign secretary Vikram Misri had said that DG Military Operations Lt Gen Ghai would talk to his counterpart on Monday, May 12.The crucial discussion is taking place while the situation is calm, including along the border and in Jammu and Kashmir, as per the ceasefire.

India and Pakistan clashed fiercely for less than 100 hours since May 6-7 post-mid night and announced ceasefire on May 10th.

However, India has accused Pakistan of ceasefire violation hours after foreign secretary Vikram Misri announced that armed forces from two neighbouring countries had reached an understanding to stop all firings and military actions on land, air and sea.

The ceasefire commenced on Saturday 17700 hours.

The situation along the Line of Control (LoC) -- read international borders -- is stable on Monday morning.

Western border states Rajastthan and  Gujarat are on high alert.

NSA Ajit Doval, Defence minister Rajnath Singh, CDS Anil Chauhan and three military chi are attending the meet.

The escalation followed India's Operation Sindoor, launched in response to the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack that killed 26 people mostly Hindus and one citizen from Nepal

On India-Pakistan understanding,

Former diplomat KP Fabian says,

"While the people near the LoC and international border welcomed it as a return to normal life, many experts and citizens felt Pakistan should have been punished more.

"Some believe Pakistan used the nuclear threat to compel US intervention, leading to the ceasefire... Initially the government tried to downplay the term 'ceasefire', calling it a 'halt in operations'.

"Despite early violations, likely due to lack of delay between the announcement and implementation, the ceasefire is largely holding...

This is a positive but small step on a long and difficult road. I believe talks with Pakistan are essential - whether through diplomatic or third channel means...

"Demanding an end to terrorism before talks begins is unrealistic, as it is impossible to verify intent without engagement... Ideally, Pakistan should confidentially assure India that it will not allow its soil to be used for terrorism".

India should welcome this, but demand verifiable actions - dismantling terror infrastructure, rehabilitating misguided youth and detaining those responsible...

If verified, India could then respond by lifting the suspension of the Indus Water Treaty. However, walking away from the treaty is not advisable...".

ISRO Chairman V Narayanan said, "At least 10 satellites are continuously working round-the-clock for the strategic purpose to ensure the safety and security of the citizens of the country."

He further said, "...You all know about our neighbours. If we have to ensure the safety of our country, we have to serve through our satellites. We have to monitor our 7,000 km seashore areas. We have to monitor the entire Northern part continuously. Without satellite and drone technology, we can’t achieve that."

The ISRO Chairman made the above remarks while addressing the 5th Convocation ceremony of the Central Agricultural University (CAU) in Imphal on Sunday (May 11).
