The Zeliangrong United Front (ZUF) in a statement on Sunday, May 4th, extended its heartfelt condolences to "our Zeliangrong brothers" who tragically lost their lives in the encounter with Indian security forces on 29th April, 2025 at Dihamlai, between Kubing and Herakilo villages in NC Hills, Assam.
"Your supreme sacrifices for the cause of the Naga people will forever be remembered and honoured in the annals of our Nation's history. We share in the pain of your families and stand in solidarity with them during this difficult time. May the departed souls rest in eternal peace," a statement from ZUF said.
The statement further said: "However, the ZUF expresses its deep concern and outrage at the NSCN-IM leadership for misusing Zeliangrong youths and disrupting the peace in Zeliangrong inhabited areas for their own self-serving interests.
"Under the guise of the Naga national movement, the indiscriminate collection of taxes from poor villagers and bureaucrats, as well as exorbitant monetary demands from companies and firms operating in Zeliangrong areas funds meant for development has become a daily exploitation," the ZUF alleged.
"It is disheartening to witness NSCN-IM leaders amassing personal wealth, purchasing luxury vehicles, constructing lavish homes, and indulging in extravagant lifestyles at the expense of ordinary people.
"Innocent Zeliangrong youths are being sent to fight against their own brothers, risking their lives to serve the corrupt ambitions of a few NSCN top leaders.
The ZUF strongly warns the NSCN-IM leadership to immediately cease exploiting our youths in the Zeliangrong region for selfish gains, or face serious consequences".
The statement also said -- "We urge all Zeliangrong youths currently serving in various factions to return and join us in the united struggle for our Homeland. Let us not waste our lives serving those who exploit our own people, but instead channel our efforts towards fulfilling the long-cherished dream of the Zeliangrong Homelanda vision our forefathers sacrificed dearly for".
The ZUF has opened door for our defector bothers to come into the main stream in support of our cause. The time has come for us to rise, lead, and take decisive action to realize the aspirations of our community, it said.
Meanwhile, the ZUF is deeply saddened by the recent violent clash over a land dispute between the Inrianglong and Dailong villages, which resulted in multiple injuries.
"These two villages have historically been pillars of peace and unity in resolving land matters within the Zeliangrong community. This unfortunate incident casts a dark shadow over our shared legacy.
The ZUF sincerely appeals to the citizens of both villages to renounce violence and embrace dialogue and reconciliation.
"Let us uphold peace and unity, which are the cornerstones of our identity and strength as a people".
