Was Ms Nirmala Sitharaman not embarrassed when as a BJP leader she was asked to impose President's Rule in Nagaland -- where her party is a crucial partner in the ruling alliance?
Was she not embarrassed when journalists wanted to know whether Nagaland's ill is 'financial mismanagement' or 'under-funding'? Worse, she did not have an
answer!
August 2022:
Nagaland's nascent Rising People's Party (RPP) appealed to FM Sitharaman to promulgate President's Rule in the state and cited CAG report to substantiate their demand.
The message has been going around even after PM Modi's August 15, 2022 speech that in Nagaland 'corruption' is an issue or a way of life! Corruption sustains normal life, politics and insurgency as well.
The Prime Minister of India need not be told these, say key sources.
Insurgency and related stuff
In Aug 2022, reports said - In Nagaland, violent incidents actually came down to 23 in 2020 from 42 the previous year (2019). However, nearly 44 percent of insurgency related incidents in 2020 in Nagaland were attributed to NSCN-IM.
Officials as expected did not take these figures lightly and a formal 'query' message was sent to Kohima as well.
NNPG convener N Kitovi Zhimomi's statement and direct appeal to PM Modi
Kitovi
"The statesmanship and decisiveness of Hon'ble Prime Minister Mr. Narendra Modi is most desirable at this hour. Naga people have been assured an honorable, inclusive solution many times in the last few years. Negotiation with the GoI interlocutor has concluded with sincerity and full commitment". - Kitovi on Aug 14, 2022
Kitovi also said, "Today, Naga people are in a self imposed crisis. There is a confusion between illusion and reality. The world will not wait for us to heal our differences.
"There are those wide awake but pretending to be asleep. Sixty elected members in the oppositionless Nagaland state assembly led by Chief Minister, as facilitators, having the mandate of the electorate of Nagaland, must translate words into action. Should electoral politics and desire to occupy the chair betray the century old Naga political problem?
Veteran S C Jamir in an article in Jan 2023:
"There are leaders who would like to continue with the status quo so that undeterred exploitation of Nagaland and its people could continue. For them ‘no solution is the solution’ ".
