My mom could have said, “Punjab mein kisan aisey hoten kya (I don’t think farmers in Punjab grow up this manner)”.
I had promised my friend Andalib Akhtar that I will write a blog on my fascination for hockey sticks, and how my mother used the hockey sticks to disciple two of her ‘most disobedient’ sons.
My brother may not remember any longer, the most liberal ‘hockey stick’ beating from mom had come to us probably in 1981.
This was one year after India won Gold in Moscow Olympics.
We were in Mizoram those days. Hockey used to be played with all intensity.
The cause of the beating was my brother as he had hurled a stone menacingly from quite a distance and hit a friend’s skull. That boy was called Raju.
I have not forgiven Raju. He hailed from Dharmanagar in Tripura, and obviously for many years Dharmanagar and Tripura remained in my hate list.
God has his own programmes. They call it Natural justice! Years later, in 2003, I had to land up in Tripura for the wedlock.
Only consolation was the in-law’s Marxist-bastion was Kamalpur and not Dharmanagar.
Mother’s use of hockey power was intense that both our feet were reddened!
The ‘gold showering’ for us went on about 20 minutes to half-an-hour. The speed and tenacity shown by Maa in disciplining her sons are now vanishing arts.
This is a generation when youngsters are only God-gifted with rights to be ‘loved and pampered’. No wonder disciplining has vanished too.
On the other platforms too, discipline has vanished. Look around Rajya Sabha!
One member says he would jump onto the table ten times again!

Of course, born 1957, he is 64 years old and a decade and half elder to me !!
Now, of mothers and sons, one would certainly refer to some mothers-in-law and brothers-in-law. Tripura connection looks relevant; may be.
Come back to Delhi and we know only the Sonia-Rahul duo can match such bonds – you could find in the backyards of Tripura.
My logic is simple, to some moms, sons cannot go wrong!

He grew up on the laps of people like R K Dhawan. A confession made by Late Dhawan himself to me and a senior colleague of mine in 2008. There were no shortages of tables.
But there is no discipline even among other women! Boys means ruffians, if someone says, please challenge their feudal mindset.

Yes, they are doing their part of the job. The issue is someone has given nod to such gestures and antiques! God save Discipline!
Of course there is Discipline in Sickularism, none will say jumping on the table is wrong. Chennai-Hindu, Coup-Express and ‘fire-and-wire’ will soon come out with another dictum, and ‘SICKULAR diktat’.

What has happened to this country is something serious. A group of people are unable to accept that two subsequent elections they have been kept out of power.
A moral lesson is, ‘yes, it is good to be in opposition for sometime’, Late Arun Jaitley had said when he was in opposition.
In the process, Modi gets another big advantage. These videos will figure again in 2024 elections and as the trends and my Modi-Bhakti suggest, BJP’s tally will increase by 50 more seats.
