Over 300 flights delayed at Delhi airport due to software glitch at Delhi Air Traffic Control :::: ATC staffers 'forced' to manually prepare flight plans using available data

India’s busiest airport, IGIA handles over 1,500 flight movements a day, and the disruption had a major cascading effect on departures and arrivals throughout the morning.

Flight tracking website Flightradar24 showed departure delays averaging 45–50 minutes by 9 am.

The glitch, which began on Thursday evening, affected the Automatic Message Switching System (AMSS), the key communication network that provides data for the Auto Track System (ATS).

A technical glitch in the Air Traffic Control system at Indira Gandhi International Airport caused significant flight delays on Friday morning.

Sources said the glitch, which began on Thursday evening, affected the Automatic Message Switching System (AMSS), the key communication network that provides data for the Auto Track System (ATS), which in turn generates flight plans for controllers.

With the automatic system down, air traffic controllers were forced to manually prepare flight plans using available data, a process described as “slow and cumbersome”, resulting in widespread delays and airspace congestion around Delhi.
