“Sirf Ek mauka (I just need one chance)” Nitish Kumar would often say during the peak of 2005 November poll campaign.
“I just want one opportunity to serve Bihar," he would tell the voters as he hopped relentlessly between constituencies.
He would also assert: "If I cannot control law and order situation in three months, if I cannot change the Bihar's image and make every Bihari proud of his identity. I will not come to you again for votes".
Today, he has the history writers and contemporary journalists to make a commentary on his stint.
Nitish Kumar sworn in as Bihar Chief Minister for record 10th time
Namo graces the occasion alongside Amit Shah
(Vijay Choudhary, Bijendra Prasad Yadav, Shrawon Kumar, Mangal Pandey, Dilip Jaiswal, Ashok Choudhary took oath as ministers in Bihar cabinet at Patna's Gandhi Maidan.)
Leshi Singh, Madan Sahni, Nitin Nabin, Ram Kripal Yadav, Santosh Kumar Suman, Sunil Kumar also took oath.
Nitish Kumar first became the Chief Minister in 2000, but his debut term lasted only seven days as he failed to secure a majority.
This was Vajpayee era in the BJP and hence Lalu-Rabri-Sadju Yadav reign continued in Bihar.
Nitish Kumar returned to power after the 2005 and 2010 Assembly elections, when the NDA secured a majority win in Bihar. JD-U by then was amongst the most trusted allies of the Lotus party. Two other regional parties were Akali Dal in Punjab and Shiv Sena in Maharashtra. Both these parties are out of NDA but a larger size of the Shiv Sena under Eknath Shinde (post split) is with the NDA.
Nitish reclaimed the top post in 2015 ahead of the Assembly elections, marking his fourth swearing-in. He again took oath after the 2015 and 2020 polls - first as leader of the JD(U)-RJD-Congress alliance and later as the NDA's nominee.
A major political shift saw Nitish Kumar return to the NDA in 2017, before breaking away to join the RJD-led coalition in 2022, and then switching back once more to the NDA in 2024.
In the just concluded elections, JD(U)-BJP-led NDA created history.
It was a massive mandate.
The NDA won a landslide victory securing 202 of the 243 seats in which the election was held.
RJD- led Mahagathbandhan (MGB) secured just 35 seats.
The RJD, led by Tejashwi Yadav, fell to third for the first time since 2010.
Nitish Kumar's Janata Dal (United) recorded its best result since 2010. It won 85 seats. BJP won 89.
The Congress fared poorly winning just 6 seats out of 61 it contested.
Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas) won 19. Rashtriya Lok Morcha and HAM (S) also did well.
