 Operation Sindoor Updates:

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh will meet chiefs of armed forces on Friday , May 9th to review border situation

In a late evening order, the Delhi government's services department banned its employees from going on leave until further orders.

An official in the New Delhi district said that a review meeting was held to check the preparedness of the health department and the disaster management apparatus. Another official in the East Delhi district administration said they are analysing the quick response mechanisms and identifying gaps.

Security was heightened across the national capital with additional forces, including paramilitary personnel, being deployed at key installations.

A high alert was sounded in Delhi, and all city government employees' leaves were cancelled as hostilities ramped up between India and Pakistan, with several border areas, including Jammu, coming under cross-border shelling.

Strollers at India Gate, the iconic war memorial, were asked to leave, and traffic there regulated. Announcements were made by police, asking people to vacate the area.

The Jammu and Kashmir government has ordered the closure of all schools, colleges and universities in the Union Territory for two days as a precautionary measure.

Tensions with Pakistan escalated on Thursday as strikes were launched towards Jammu, Pathankot and Udhampur from Pakistan. Several drones and missiles were intercepted by India's S-400 defence systems.

In Rajasthan, one local says, "The Indian air defence system destroyed all the drones in the air...India is many times stronger than Pakistan...We are happy. Pakistan will always face failure."

Pakistani drones were intercepted by Indian air defence in Jaisalmer last night.

"Pakistan Armed Forces launched multiple attacks using drones and other munitions along entire Western Border on the intervening night of 08 and 09 May 2025. Pak troops also resorted to numerous cease fire violations (CFVs) along the Line of Control in Jammu and Kashmir," Ministry of Defence

The drone attacks were effectively repulsed and befitting reply was given to the CFVs.

#IndianArmy remains committed to safeguarding the sovereignity and territorial integrity of the Nation. All nefarious designs will be responded with force.- MoD said on Friday, May 9th morning.

The development came a day after India carried out Operation Sindoor strikes on Pakistani terror hideouts, which according to sources, led to 100 terrorists being killed. The Operation Sindoor was carried out weeks after the deadly Pahalgam terror attack, which killed 26 people.

One local in Jammu said: "...There was a complete blackout last night.  After which, drones started flying and firing continued the entire night.

Our forces are giving Pakistan a befitting reply. We have trust in our Prime Minister and our Army.

All drones were neutralised by our forces. We are proud of our country. There is tension near the border but rest of the places are safe."

On the current situation between India and Pakistan, Washington DC-based South Asia analyst, Michael Kugelman says,

"We know that there's a pretty strong international consensus in favor of de-escalation, but I think it's a fairly small number of countries that would be in a position to try to mediate this crisis.

"We know that the US has been active in mediation efforts in 2019 and also in 1999 during the Kargil crisis...The US has a very warm relationship with India and has a very good relationship with Pakistan as well...

I think that China's significance in this crisis lies more in the security realm than in the diplomatic realm.

China is a significant supplier of arms to Pakistan and there's indications that Chinese weaponry or Chinese made weaponry has been used by Pakistan during this crisis...".

US Vice President JD Vance in an interview to Fox News, says "...What we can do is try to encourage these folks to deescalate a little bit, but we're not going to get involved in the middle of war that's fundamentally none of our business and has nothing to do with America's ability to control it.

"You know, America can't tell the Indians to lay down their arms. We can't tell the Pakistanis to lay down their arms.

"And so, we're going to continue to pursue this thing through diplomatic channels. Our hope and our expectation is that this is not going to spiral into a broader regional war or, God forbid, a nuclear conflict.

We are worried about these things. The job of the cooler heads in India and Pakistan is to make sure that this doesn't become a nuclear war and if it happens, it will be disastrous but right now we don't think it is going to happen."

One local said in Jammu :

"The firing by Pakistan has damaged the whole front area of my house. Houses of my relatives have also been damaged. There was very heavy shelling at night. We stand with the Army."

ACP Airport, Amritsar, Yadwinder Singh says,

"There is adequate security at the airport. Only airport personnel are allowed inside. Police are continuously patrolling. The villagers have been made aware of protocols to be followed."
