Is it the shyness to attack Pakistan?
Fear of minority votes anguish ??
The Trinamool Congress leadership has reportedly informed the government of India that first-time Lok Sabha MP and former cricketer Yusuf Pathan or any other lawmaker from the West Bengal-based outfit will not be part of the delegation to campaign against Pakistan's cross-border terrorism.
TMC leader Abhishek Banerjee said: "....if the delegations are going, the way attempt was made by Pakistan to disrupt peace in India, we condemn it, but the TMC will decide who will go, the Centre cannot decide it unilaterally. It has to be decided by the party leadership.”
The politics over parliamentary delegations has increased manifold. The Congress party is already unnerved that its Kerala MP Shashi Tharoor is being deputed to lead a key delegation to the US and other countries.
There is already a row over Congress nominating Jorhat MP from Assam, Guarav Gogoi. While Gogoi's name does not figure in any of the seven delegations; Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has stirred a mega row by stating that Gaurav's wife has connections with Pakistanis and that the spies is Islamabad had invited Gogoi once.
Sarma alleged that Gaurav Gogoi, had gone to Pakistan after being invited by their government, which was a “dangerous” precedent.
"Gaurav Gogoi visited Pakistan on an invitation of the ISI. For the first time, I am saying this. We have documents of the same. He did not go for tourism purposes. He went there definitely for taking training," the CM claimed.
The remarks are linked to ensuing Assam elections in 2026.
Gaurav Gogoi is a formidable rival for Assam BJP and Himanta and former CM Late Tarun Gogoi's son has the charishma to unseat the Lotus party in the polls.
Gaurav is a trusted lieutenant of Rahul Gandhi and is deputy Leader of the Opposition in Lok Sabha.
Even for Trinamool Congress; the reluctance to depute anyone and also to withdraw Yusuf Pathan's name could be linked to state's fierce political oneupmanship between TMC and the BJP.
Like Assam, the Mamata Banerjee-ruled West Bengal also goes to polls early next year.
