US maybe keen to make 'Pakistan-2' out of Bangladesh ---- Antiquity of Strategic Thinking : If Army Chief Gen Zaman can be 'Islamic' and toe Gen Munir line ....

Bangladesh Army Chief General Waker-Uz-Zaman actually wears many hats. At present he is confronting Bangladesh's caretaker regime head Muhammad Yunus.

Interim head Muhammad Yunus may travel abroad and in the meantime hand over charge albeit temporarily to either a senior journalist or a popular feminist.

There are more names being considered too.

The self-proclaimed and 'western sponsored' big economist Yunus is allegedly a stooge of the US deep state. He was also highly anti-Trump and pro-Democrat. By default or otherwise he is pro-China and is actually anti-India perhaps from beginning.

There are multiple facets in India-Bangladesh ties. There are also wheels-within-wheels with regard China-US-Bangladesh equations.

All these combine together to suggest one fact that the Modi government could have a few more challenges in its eastern front.

Hurt and almost exposed that its weapon system is as good as 'reputed' day-today usage daily essentials; Beijing is now keen to develop friendship with Bangladesh.

It will be too keen to create problems for New Delhi in the east and north east.

It's the same old billiard game. Friendship with Bangladesh would mean targeting Indian military installations. Basically to keep eyes.

The US too will be always interested in Bangladesh.

Dhaka has lately  ruled out any possibility of allowing a “humanitarian corridor” to Myanmar’s Rakhine State through Bangladesh.

The interim government has neither discussed nor intends to discuss such a proposal with any party, said Bangladesh National Security Adviser Khalilur Rahman.

He clarified that current discussions with the United Nations (UN) are solely focused on facilitating the delivery of humanitarian aid such as food and medicine through some channels to Myanmar’s Rakhine State.

That region is facing humanitarian crisis. But the push back came after Bangladesh army chief Waker-Uz-Zaman gave a warning against any such move.

But Waker Zaman has an image of being close to Islamic fundamentalists. Hence, ultimately he could be a useful protagonist for the Americans too.

In any case. it will be erroneous to suggest that he could be India friendly -- at least as of now. Nor it will not be wise to suppose that if Gen Zaman stages a coup and unseat Yunus -- he will try to bring back Awami League.

The General is doing his calculations and he too like many serving and former army officers want to establish a strong Islamic nation.

In effect, here comes the importance of Bangladesh to the United States.

Americans are probably realising that days of 'using Pakistan for South Asian chaos' are numbered. Rawalpindi and Pak army got badly bomb-shelled during Operation Sindoor. It may take years and lot of investments. China too understands that its too keenness to help Islamabad did not go down well.

Beijing is concerned about the setback it got as a dependable defence manufacturing hub.

Hence from the perspectives of both the US and China; they will be interested to play and influence 'big' in Bangladesh.

Muhammad Yunus may go abroad for a while and try to campaign directly and indirectly in favour of the newly launched party National Citizen Party (NCP).

Amid talks - that he may resign; there is speculation now that temporary charge may be handed over to either a popular feminist Brig Sultana Kamal (Retd) or a pro-BNP senior journalist and popular TV anchor Shafiq Rehman.

Some months back (in 2024) words spread that with his 'Lal Golap (Red Rose)' TV show; he would like to spread love in his motherland yet again.

Brig Sultana Kamal (Retd.) is a prominent Bangladeshi lawyer, feminist, and human rights activist, known for her work on civil and political rights, as well as gender equality. She has held various leadership positions, including executive director of Ain o Salish Kendra (ASK) and chairperson of Transparency International Bangladesh.
