US Secy of State Rubio dials S Jaishankar & Pak PM Shehbaz Sharif: Stress on 'de-escalate tensions'

US Secretary of State Marco Rubio spoke with Indian External Affairs Minister Dr S Jaishankar and Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif amid rising tensions following the Pahalgam terror attack that killed 26 people.

During his conversation with Dr Jaishankar, Rubio expressed deep sorrow over the loss of lives and extended condolences to the victims and their families in the Pahalgam attack, according to US State Department spokesperson Tammy Bruce.

He reaffirmed the US's commitment to working with India in the global fight against terrorism.

Rubio encouraged both India and Pakistan to engage in dialogue aimed at de-escalating regional tensions and promoting peace and stability in South Asia, Bruce said in a statement.

Rubio also discussed the situation with Shehbaz Sharif.

Pak PM briefed Rubio him on Islamabad's perspective regarding recent developments in South Asia.

PM Narendra Modi has given free hand to three armed forces to decide about the target, mode and timing of the attack against terror and Pakistan.

Modi has held a series of back-to-back security meetings with his Cabinet ministers including Defence Minister Rajnath Singh and NSA Ajit Doval.

Top defence brass and three service chiefs also attended multiple meetings.

PM Modi has said the decisive fight against terror is a national resolution and his government has vowed to "pursue" the perpetrators and their backers "to the ends of the earth".

India has downgraded its ties with Pakistan following the Pahalgam attack on April 22 and took several diplomatic measures, including the pausing of the Indus Waters Treaty, expelling all Pakistani military attaches and the shutting down of the Attari-Wagah border.

In response, Pakistan suspended the Simla Agreement and banned its airspace. New Delhi has also banned the airspace for Pakistani aircraft and military planes.

India is assessing things in totality before taking any decision. It is also gauging the mood of China which has in the past and even lately backed Pakistan in international fora.

The US, which once attached considerable importance to its relationship with Pakistan during war against radicals in Afghanistan; now has diminished attachment and excitement about Islamabad.

This has given India a huge advantage in the comity of nations vis-a-vis the comity of nations and PM Modi's resolve to take the fight against Pakistan to a logical conclusion. Of course, given the new focus on the Indo-Pacific and the importance of Quad; Donald Trump's interest in India has steadily grown.

The same is true of the Middle East. The UAE and Saudi Arabia, generous benefactors of Pakistan in the past, are now friendly to the Modi-led regime in New Delhi.

All these nations have deepening economic and security ties with India and may not tilt in favour of Pakistan when need arises.

India shuts airspace for Pakistan-run flights, military aircraft ::: When it's war; Modi Govt needs to be caution and careful while walking-the-talk

India on Wednesday, April 30, issued a notice restricting its airspace to all aircraft registered, operated, or leased by Pakistan, including commercial airlines and military flights.

New Delhi issued a NOTAM (Notice to Airmen) restricting its airspace to all aircraft registered, operated, or leased by Pakistan, including commercial airlines and military flights.

The airspace closure will be in effect from April 30 to May 23, 2025.

Pakistani carriers had already started avoiding Indian airspace.

India also shut the Integrated Check Post at the Attari-Wagah border, and authorities set a deadline for Pakistani nationals who had entered India with valid documents to exit. Also, all visas issued to Pakistani citizens have been revoked, and travel under the SAARC visa exemption scheme is no longer allowed for Pakistanis.

With India now officially restricting its airspace, Pakistani airlines will be forced to take longer routes through countries such as China or Sri Lanka to reach Southeast Asian destinations like Kuala Lumpur, officials said.

Pakistan earlier shut its airspace to Indian flights after the Pahalgam terror attack on April 22.

India's decision to close its airspace to Pakistani aircraft is part of a series of retaliatory actions taken in response to the Pahalgam terror attack.

The Modi Govt has suspended the Indus Waters Treaty, making its revival conditional on Pakistan ending support for cross-border terrorism.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has announced exemplary actions against terror and Pakistan following Pahalgam attack that claimed lives of 25 tourists and one local.

Reflecting on Chinese expert of ancient era Sun Tzu's words would make sense in more ways than one.

“If you know the enemy and know yourself, you need not fear the result of a hundred battles. If you know yourself but not the enemy, for every victory gained you will also suffer a defeat. If you know neither the enemy nor yourself, you will succumb in every battle," he had said.

This calls for cautioning and careful walk-the-talk by New Delhi.

As of now it is only a 'wishful thinking' :::: For records 21 Manipur MLAs write to PM urging to allow formation of "popular government"

21 Manipur MLAs write to PM Modi, Ask to form "Popular Government"

The letter was signed by 13 BJP MLAs, three National People's Party (NPP) MLAs, three Naga Peoples' Front (NPF) MLAs and two independents

The letter says: "The people of Manipur welcomed the President's Rule... with lots of hope and expectation. However, it's going to be three months, but no visible actions to bring peace and normalcy have been seen so far."

The Centre was reluctant on two fronts - one political. It wanted to back the then Chief Minister N Biren Singh hoping he would deliver.

Secondly, as a matter of principle, the centre is against central rule for any state.

Probably this is one reason even defaulting NDPP-BJP regime has survived for so long. The Modi Govt could have acted against Mamata Banerjee as well and here too -- notwithstanding issues it wants 2026 assembly elections to decide the fate of Trinamool Congress regime in Kolkata and possibly the face of that regional party as well.

The Modi Govt imposed President's Rule in Manipur on Feb 13th.

More than 260 people have been killed and thousands rendered homeless in ethnic violence between the Meiteis and Kuki tribes that started in May 2023. The imposition of the President's Rule came after chief minister N Biren Singh resigned as things became difficult for him to carry on the show.

There are several BJP leaders who are ambitious and hence even amongst the saffron party legislators, there is a clamour for a new leader.

The state assembly, which has a tenure till 2027, has been put under suspended animation.

beleaguered Biren Singh

"There is strong apprehension among the people that the violence may occur again in the state. Many civil organisations have come out openly against the imposition of the President's rule and (are) demanding installation of a popular government," the letter said.

"These organisations have started holding public rallies, street corner meetings, instigating the general public, blaming the ruling MLAs for not staking claim to form a popular government and fixing responsibility for the imposition of PR (President's rule) in the state," the MLAs said in the April 10 letter.

From administration point of view the initial three months is two short a period to pass judgement whether Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla and his team have been able to deliver or not.  Things are so complex and deep rooted that at it may require nine months more -- that is President's Rule may continue for a year -- that is for two stints.

By the end of calendar year 2025; things can be commented - either ways -- whether President's Rule could succeed or not.

Guv Bhalla with 'boss' Amit Shah

There are many things that work and will possibly work again and again before any decision is taken to revoke Presidential proclamation and allow installation of a so-called popular government.

For Home Minister Amit Shah  now hands are full especially after Pahalgam. For his part, Governor Bhalla is making attempts to ensure reconciliation between two warring communities.

This is simply easier said than done.

The relations have deteriorated beyond repair in more ways than one.

By January 17-18  (2025) when I was in Imphal -- there was actually no writ of the government.

Biren Singh could not emerge as the 'messiah' of the Meiteis even as he has been a populist leader.

There emerged a fashion of setting up of 'Kangaroo courts' and dispensing justice in own style and not following the standard jurisprudence.

An allegedly rape victim did not go to Biren Singh's police force.

In a statement, the Koireng-faction of United National Liberation Front (UNLF) said the punishment was handed out to Khaidem Nongdam Khanganba, 30, of Imphal West district following its investigation. (as reported in 'Hindustan Times')

This is just to cite one example. Many things could not be reported or were not reported in the media.

The good old parochialism -- often taken as a virtue in north east - had swallowed media too. Hence, reporting seemed partisan on both sides.

The argument goes that the "other side" (civil society and intellectuals including media)  portrayed the other community in bad light.

The story telling "dehumanised" the enemy and even drained him/her of all sensibilities and recognisable emotions.

In simpler language for Meiteis -- the Kuki-Zo people were all wrong; and similarly for Kukis - the Meiteis were only with negative traits.

relief camp

This pushed the refrain -- "we cannot live together".

Not much has changed since then or even after imposition of President's Rule.

Now to look for an alternative leader (to Biren Singh), the Government of India may have to look for three qualities in the 'new leader'.

There will be one condition or rather handicap. The BJP high command cannot impose Biren Singh as the state Chief Minister though the former CM has not given up hopes on his good luck.

Secondly, the three qualities - the new leader should have is to - Deliver Governance, has to ensure communal amity and thirdly be a firm administrator when it comes to law and order situation and even matters concerning international border.

These expectations will be bit high; and hence President's Rule is the reality for the time being.

Stealing the Opposition thunder ... That's Moditva !! Caste census to be included in next population survey -- the most anti-climax Cabinet announcement in post-Pahalgam era

Caste census to be included in next population survey: Modi Cabinet's path-breaking decision

Announcing the big Cabinet decision, Union Information and Broadcasting Minister Ashwani Vaishnaw trained guns on the Congress, saying the grand old party always opposed the caste census.

Of course it is the most anti-climax Cabinet announcement in post-Pahalgam era when journalists and the rest of India hoped the cabinet briefing would throw focus on Cabinet Committee on Security decisions lately.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi at a high-level meeting on Tuesday evening gave 'full operational freedom' to armed forces to decide about India's response against terror and Pakistan after the April 22 unprecedented terror strike that killed 26 people - mostly Hindus.

The announcement on caste census will stealing a major thunder of the Opposition camp -- something overused by Congress leader Rahul Gandhi to corner the Congress.

That's Moditva style, as they put it !!  This also shows that unlike Pakistan wherein 'panicistan syndrome'; life is normal in India and hence domestic politics is business as usual.

No Congressman or any opposition leader would have expected such a decision on Wednesday, April 30 -- eight days after Pahalgam terror strike.

It is a cool political move by Team Modi leaving both its supporters and detractors stunned - especially going by the timing.

"Cabinet Committee on Political Affairs has decided to include caste enumeration in forthcoming census exercise," the Union Minister said in a media briefing on Wednesday.

"Congress governments have always opposed the caste census. In 2010, the late Dr Manmohan Singh said that the matter of caste census should be considered in the Cabinet. A group of ministers was formed to consider this subject. Most of the political parties have recommended a caste census.

Despite this, the Congress government decided not to conduct a survey of caste or a caste census," Vaishnaw said.

"It is well understood that the Congress and its INDI alliance partners have used the caste census only as a political tool. Some states have conducted surveys to enumerate castes. While some states have done this well, some others conducted such surveys only from a political angle in a non-transparent way," he added.

OTHER KEY DECISIONS TAKEN IN CABINET COMMITTEE MEET

Among other decisions taken at the CCPA meet on Wednesday, the government approved the development of greenfield high-speed corridor of 166.80 km (NH-6) from Mawlyngkhung (near Shillong) in Meghalaya to Panchgram (near Silchar) in Assam on Hybrid Annuity Mode (HAM) at a total cost of Rs.22,864 crore.

The Cabinet Committee also gave its nod to the Fair and Remunerative Price (FRP) of sugarcane for sugar season 2025-26 at to be Rs 355/quintal for the basic recovery rate of 10.25 per cent, providing a premium of Rs.3.46/quintal for each 0.1 per cent increase in recovery over 10.25 per cent, and reduction in FRP by Rs.3.46/quintal for every 0.1 per cent decrease in recovery.

In reply to a question in Parliament, the Union Home Ministry said: “The raw caste data was provided to the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment for classification and categorisation… As informed by (the ministry), there is no proposal to release the caste data at this stage.”

In September, the government maintained exclusion of information regarding any other caste, apart from SCs and STs, from the purview of census is a "conscious policy decision“

Post-Pahalgam .... National Security Advisory Board (NSAB) revamped ... former RAW chief Alok Joshi to head it

The reconstituted National Security Advisory Board (NSAB) will now have six members, including three from a military background, two IPS officers and one Indian Foreign Service (IFS) personnel.

The Centre has revamped the NSAB and appointed former RAW chief Alok Joshi as its head.

The principal function of the National Security Advisory Board is to conduct long-term analysis and provide perspectives on national security issues to the National Security Council. It also recommends measures, solutions, and policy options on matters referred to it by the council.

From the military, former Southern Army Commander Lieutenant General A K Singh, former Western Air Commander Air Marshal P M Sinha, and Rear Admiral Monty Khanna have been appointed.

Retired IPS officers Rajiv Ranjan Verma and Manmohan Singh, and retired IFS officer B Venkatesh Varma together constitute the six-member board.

First constituted in December 1998, the NSAB undertakes long-term analysis to provide perspectives on the national security issues to the National Security Council (NSC) and to recommend measures or solutions and policy options on the issues referred to it by the NSC.

The last board was constituted in 2018 with PS Raghavan, former Indian Ambassador to Russia (2014–16), as its head.

Moditva-Diplomacy frustrated Pakistan as it could not put "disputed" word before Jammu and Kashmir in the UNSC statement on Pahalgam :: India exposes Pakistan as a rogue state

The United States and France stuck to India at the United Nations Security Council meet and thus Pakistan could not get the word “disputed” added with Jammu and Kashmir in the UNSC statement on Pahalgam attack.

India played up the Diplomatic card well at the UNSC meet.

India's representative said the open confession of Pakistan’s Defence Minister Khawaja Asif admitting to his country’s history of supporting and funding terrorist organisations exposes Pakistan as a “rogue state”.

But as Pakistan is a member of the UNSC (in the non permanent category till end of 2026), New Delhi could not get the naming of 'The Resistance Front' in the statement.

China and also Pakistan blocked the reference.

The Resistance Front initially claimed the responsibility of the Pahalgam attack but later withdrew the press release/claims made to the media.

Hawk's eye view - Diplomacy remains an art

External Affairs Minister Dr S Jaishankar and his team worked hard in the run up to the UNSC statement.

Jaishankar himself spoke to Foreign Ministers of , Sierra Leone, Slovenia, Somalia, Algeria, Greece, Guyana and Panama.

They are on the UNSC for a two-year term as non-permanent members.   Algeria, Guyana, Sierra Leone, Slovenia and South Korea are on the UNSC until December 2025 and  Greece, Panama, Somalia, Denmark and Pakistan are till till the end 2026.

In fact, speaking at the Pakistan's National Assembly in Islamabad, Pakistani Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar said as a non-permanent member Islamabad pushed to water down the language in the US-proposed statement, which originally named The Resistance Front.

"On behalf of Pakistan, I had two objections [to the statement]. First, only Pahalgam was mentioned and secondly, the blame was put on The Resistance Forum .... I thought this was not acceptable. You have to write Jammu and Kashmir along with Pahalgam" he said.

For his part Dr Jaishankar also spoke to UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres.

In a post on X, he said he received a call from Guterres. “Appreciate his unequivocal condemnation of the terrorist attack in Pahalgam. Agreed on the importance of accountability. India is resolved that the perpetrators, planners and backers of this attack are brought to justice.”

India has made its position clear to foreign ministers and government heads across the globe that it has a strict policy of “zero tolerance” towards terrorism.

Jaishankar sought  support of foreign ministers he spoke on “the need to combat terrorism in all forms and manifestations”.

He also thanked each of them for their condemnation of the Pahalgam terror attack and messages of solidarity and support.

The UNSC statement finally “condemned in the strongest terms” the terrorist attack in J&K, stressing that those responsible should be held accountable and the organisers and sponsors of this “reprehensible act of terrorism” should be brought to justice.

“The members of the Security Council underlined the need to hold perpetrators, organisers, financiers and sponsors of this reprehensible act of terrorism accountable and bring them to justice,” its press statement said.

“They stressed that those responsible for these killings should be held accountable, and urged all States, in accordance with their obligations under international law and relevant Security Council resolutions, to cooperate actively with all relevant authorities in this regard,” it said.

India wanted the “Government of India” mentioned in the statement, but Pakistan objected to it.

France did not support use of the word 'disputed' before Jammu and Kashmir and this meant a setback to Pakistan yet again.

France is now the President of the Council for the month of April and the press statement was issued by Council President Jerome Bonnafont, Permanent Representative of France to the UN.

Importantly, Jerome was the French envoy to India during the erstwhile Manmohan Singh government from 2007 to 2011 and had friends and associates across party lines.

India played up the Diplomatic card well at the UNSC meet.

New Delhi said the open confession of Pakistan’s Defence Minister Khawaja Asif admitting to his country’s history of supporting and funding terrorist organisations exposes Pakistan as a “rogue state” fuelling global terrorism and destabilising the region.

India’s Deputy Permanent Representative to the UN, Ambassador Yojna Patel, delivered a strong Right of Reply at the hybrid launch event for the ‘Victims of Terrorism Association Network’ (VoTAN) of the UN Office of Counter-Terrorism when Pakistan’s delegate made a reference to the Pahalgam terror attack.

“It is unfortunate that one particular delegation has chosen to misuse and undermine this forum to indulge in propaganda and make baseless allegations against India....... The whole world has heard the Pakistani Defence Minister Khawaja Asif admitting and confessing Pakistan’s history of supporting, training and funding terrorist organisations in a recent television interview,” she said.

This "open confession" surprises no one and exposes Pakistan as a rogue state fueling global terrorism and destabilising the region. The world can no longer turn a blind eye. "I have nothing further to add,” she has said.

In a recent interview on Sky News, Asif said, “Well, we have been doing this dirty work for the United States for about three decades, you know, and West, including Britain” on a reference that Pakistan has had a long history of backing, supporting, training and funding these terrorist organisations.

When Himanta's cops kill NSCN-IM cadres .... you should be convinced how things have come full circle .... Nothing Doing and yet Poor Performance !!

September 2021 - Who cannot solve Naga problem ?

- R N Ravi

2022 -- Who will solve all pending issues on Naga problem?

- Himanta Biswa Sarma

April 2025 :

At least three suspected NSCN - IM (National Socialist Council of Nagaland -IM) cadres, who entered Assam "allegedly to extort money" from the National Highways Authority of India, were killed in an encounter with security forces in Dima Hasao district on Tuesday.

The entire operation took around 60 hours. (NDTV report)

The fact of the matter is it was a police operation and central forces did not have to do much.

The phrase Nothing Doing yet Poor Performance has also come full circle.

There's something bitter and yet ironical about it !!

(Gamocha brotherhood)

In Delhi, officials in the spy departments pulled up new sets of sun glasses. I asked one of them 'why' ?

His response was -- "Bollywood films have made it almost compulsory; if you do not have sun glasses on, you are a bad spy".

I countered: "Heat is on...".

A dutiful friend for years - he nodded in agreement and added: "Sahi pakde haen ... you are right actually the heat is everywhere; Pakistan is facing Pahalgam heat.... your friends are also facing the same". I understood his double meaning statement.

We refused to discuss further about the Assam operation.

In the meantime one admirer of NDPP chief Chingwang Konyak called up and sounded furious -

"What is this after Bolero Bolero... you have started saying Nothing Doing ....".

I was taken aback but was quick to return his compliments : "I am also N.D ... nothing doing ... Nirendra Dev".

The Assam operation was planned and monitored by the highest level of Assam police for a month now.

Over 300 security force personnel led by the Assam police were part of this operation.

The encounter took place at a pocket between N Kubin and Herakilo under Haflong police station limits after the NSCN-IM cadres came from neighbouring Nagaland.

A cache of arms and ammunition were also recovered from Naga cadres by the special units of the Assam police and Assam Rifles.

The NSCN factions have a ceasefire agreement with the government of India and theNagaland  state government as part of the ongoing peace process.

In February 2025, the National Socialist Council of Nagaland-Isak-Muivah (NSCN-IM) announced a new battalion for the 'NC Hills' region (present-day Dima Hasao), creating a flutter within security agencies in the region.

The outfit's military chief Anthony N Shimray had surveyed areas along the tri-junction of Assam-Manipur-Nagaland, where the battalion will be based.

Importantly, from the Govt of India point of view -- the ceasefire agreement which is subjected to 'extension' every year is operative only within the territorial limited of Nagaland state.

But it goes without stating that various NSCN factions have remained active in parts of  Arunachal Pradesh, Assam and Manipur.

Assam police sources say - the operation was carried out acting on a tip-off about the presence of NSCN-IM militants.

In the gunfight, which lasted for 3-4 hours, three militants were killed on the spot, he added.

Police sources added that the local people of Dima Hasao were actively involved in helping the police as they did not want the peace in the region disrupted.

The big picture message is New Delhi knew about the operation. New Delhi is not quite happy the manner some of the Naga outfits (under ceasefire) are conducting themselves.

Expansion and  military actions by the groups while not making expected progress in terms of discussions during peace parleys are not quite palatable for the Govt of India.

Hence analysts say the Govt of India "has to support any security related operations" in Assam, Manipur and Arunachal Pradesh against Naga militants because there is no ceasefire in these states.

"Moreover, the NSCN-IM and may be other Naga militant groups are eyeing oil exploration and tea business activities in Assam for extra pocket money. Things have started drying up in Nagaland and there is a gradual pressure building up against extortion," said one source in the know of things.

An additional interesting feedback from one of the channels to the Home Minister Amit Shah's office lately has been --- the NSCN-IM and a few other Naga groups and even political leaders would try to hype the Naga integration demand to maintain their relevance.

The fact of the matter is some of these 'powerful leaders' (even overground Netas) and groups are losing support and are immensely unpopular in Nagaland these days.

Hence this 'extra push' is being made to expand base in the traditional Dima Hasao areas.

Security forces do not rule out similar attempts at 'expansion' of base attempts and extortion demands in tea-belt of upper Assam and also in some parts of Arunachal Pradesh.

What the BJP-NDPP government does in the meantime in Nagaland - maybe even J P Nadda's successor would not know.

_• Bhavnagar, Gujarat, topped among 100 ABDM microsites, achieving targets before the 9-month deadline_

_• Bhavnagar became India’s first microsite to digitally link over 2 lakh health records_

_• ABDM’s ‘Scan and Share’ service has streamlined the OPD experience in 19 medical colleges in the state

Under Prime Minister Narendra Modi's Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission (ABDM), Gujarat has reached a significant milestone by registering over 4.77 crore citizens, or 70% of its population, under the Ayushman Bharat Health Account (ABHA).

The state government proudly announced this achievement on the occasion of Ayushman Bharat Day. Reflecting Prime Minister Modi’s vision for a Digital India, Gujarat, under the leadership of Chief Minister Shri Bhupendra Patel, is leading the way in the digitalization of health records as part of the Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission.

The Ayushman Bharat Health Account (ABHA) serves as a digital health identity designed to integrate and securely store citizens' health records. With this system, citizens are provided with a digital health ID, ensuring their health records are safely stored online. It guarantees data security and privacy, with information shared only with the citizen's consent.

*2.26+ Crore Health Records Linked, 17,800+ Health Facilities, and 42,000+ Professionals Registered*

Under the Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission (ABDM), more than 2.26 crore health records have been successfully linked digitally. In addition, over 17,800 health facilities have been registered, significantly enhancing the accessibility and quality of healthcare services. Furthermore, more than 42,000 healthcare professionals have completed their registration, ensuring their seamless integration into the digital health ecosystem.

*Bhavnagar Tops ABDM Microsite Performance in India, Achieves Target Ahead of 9-month Deadline*

Among the 100 ABDM microsite projects implemented across the country, Gujarat's Bhavnagar microsite has delivered the best performance. The Bhavnagar microsite successfully completed all its milestones even before the 9-month deadline set by the Government of India. Furthermore, Bhavnagar became the first microsite in the country to digitally link over 2 lakh health records. Additionally, other key microsites in Gujarat, such as Ahmedabad and Surat, have also recently completed all their milestones, and the Rajkot microsite is very close to achieving its goals.

It is worth noting that the ABDM microsite pilot project, launched under the Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission (ABDM) on September 27, 2021, aimed to connect private health professionals and institutions to digital services. Initially started in Ahmedabad, Surat, and Mumbai, the encouraging results from this initiative have led to the successful implementation of 100 ABDM microsites across the country.

*‘Scan & Share’ Streamlines OPD Experience under ABDM*

Under the Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission (ABDM), the ‘Scan & Share’ feature has significantly improved access to and the efficiency of healthcare services. Available in 19 medical college–affiliated hospitals in the state, this feature allows registered patients to simply scan a QR code to instantly receive their OPD token number.

At the same time, with the patient’s consent, doctors gain immediate access to all digital health information linked to their Ayushman Bharat Health Account (ABHA). The QR-based “Scan & Share” service not only enhances the patient experience but also makes healthcare delivery more efficient and effective.

Taliban regime seeks enhanced ties with Modi Govt; Turkey condemned “terrorist attack” and did not refer to J&K as “disputed” further isolate Islamabad

Pakistan could be banking on 'Muslim support' at the regional and global stage.

But this is already a new era and a new world.

In their immediate reaction to Pahalgam terror attack of April 22, Turkey’s official statement called it a “terrorist attack”, did not refer to Jammu and Kashmir as “disputed” as they normally do.

This was seen as "positive vibes" by New Delhi. Moreover, Istambul has also “condemned” the attack.

Namo and three service chiefs

From Afghanistan's point of view; Kabul said a top Indian diplomat had met Foreign Minister Amir Khan Muttaqi and discussed ways to strengthen India-Afghanistan bilateral political relations and enhance trade and transit cooperation.

The ministry said they also exchanged views on recent regional developments, all these signal new and far reaching diplomatic achievements by the Narendra Modi government.  For decades, Islamabad encouraged Taliban and their violent styles of functioning,

But in 2025, far from providing “strategic depth” to Pakistan against India, Taliban-ruled Afghanistan has become a serious security vulnerability for it.

Come to think of it even China is no longer giving Pakistan a 'confidence' it requires at this juncture.

Corruption and inefficiency aside vis-a-vis Beijing sponsored projects in Pakistan, China is displeased at Islamabad's inability to deliver on security promises.

A number of Chinese engineers and project supervisors have been killed by Baloch terrorists. Nevertheless, experts claim although China remains Pakistan’s biggest patron, the two countries’ bilateral relationship is not what it used to be.

As part of diplomatic exercise to 'expand' the goodwill and support in India's war against terror; New Delhi has recently deputed M Anand Prakash, Joint Secretary in charge of Pakistan, Afghanistan and Iran in the Ministry of External Affairs, to Kabul.

Prakash has also handled the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) in the MEA.

The Foreign Ministry of Taliban-ruled Afghanistan condemned the Pahalgam terror attack.

“The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan categorically condemns the recent attack on tourists in the Pahalgam region of Jammu and Kashmir, and expresses condolences to the bereaved families,” its spokesman Abdul Qahar Balkhi said.

This had actually come before Prakash had landed in Kabul.

(( Pahalgam terror attack targeting Hindu tourists stokes anger across India

Pressure grows on Modi and his Hindu nationalist government to mount a military response

The prime minister promised to “identify, track and punish every terrorist and their backer”.

Govt gives 'free hand' to armed forces -- ‘Decide time, target, mode’ ))

Afghanistan said both sides have exchanged views on recent regional developments -- obviously a reference to Pahalgam and India's determination to take the battle against terror to a logical conclusion.

Muttaqi underscored the importance of expanding diplomatic and economic relations between Kabul and Delhi. He also stressed the need to facilitate the movement of people between the two countries.

Kabul and New Delhi would also possibly work for normalisation of visa issuance processes for businessmen, medical/patients and students.

“Both sides stressed on the importance of enhancing bilateral engagements, streamlining visa procedures, promoting the exchange of delegations and strengthening cooperation in various fields,” said a statement.

The meeting of Afghanistan's key figures with a senior Indian officer came months after Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri met Muttaqi in Dubai.

The meeting in January was the first high-level outreach by the Indian official establishment.

During the meeting, the Afghan side had assured India that it does not pose a threat to any nation and expressed hope for raising the level of diplomatic relations with India — Delhi has not yet officially recognised the Taliban.

“We are deeply saddened to learn that many people lost their lives and many others were injured in the terrorist attack which targeted civilians in Pahalgam region of Jammu and Kashmir today (April 22). We condemn this heinous attack. We extend our condolences to the families of those who lost their lives and wish a speedy recovery to the injured,” Turkey’s Foreign Ministry had said in Ankara.

According to former foreign secretary Shyam Saran, --The Gulf states too have refused to open up their coffers (for Islamabad). There is fatigue among the Gulf states about having to repeatedly bail Pakistan out, and a sense that Islamabad has not given them much in return for doing so over the years.

"... itna gire hue ho aur kitna giroge .... You are at lowest ebb; how much more you can go cheap down" -- cricketer Shikhar Dhawan slams Pakistani cricket player Shahid Afridi

Indian cricket star Shikhar Dhawan gave a strong reaction to Pakistani cricketer Shahid Afridi's unwarranted comments on Indian army.

"Kargil mein bhi haraya tha, already itna gire hue ho aur kitna giroge,

bewajah comments pass karne se acha hai apne desh ki taraqqi mai dimag lagao @SAfridiOfficial," Dhawan tweeted.

"Humein hamari Indian Army par bohot garv hai. Bharat Mata Ki Jai! Jai Hind!

(We beat you in Kargil. Already you guys have stooped so low, how further can you go? Instead of passing comments, focus on improving the condition of your own country. We are proud of Indian Army)," Dhawan said in a X post.

Afridi, a veteran of 27 Tests, 398 ODIs and 99 T20Is, mocked Indian Army and media for their take on the Pahalgam terrorist attack.

PM Narendra Modi chaired a high-level meeting with the top military brass and Defence Minister Rajnath Singh as India mulls options to punish those behind the April 22 Pahalgam attack, the worst terror strike on civilians in India since the 26/11 Mumbai carnage.

"atankiyo ki bachi zameen.....

"It is time to destroy the remaining (left over) land of the terrorists," PM had said at a rally in Bihar.

During his "Mann Ki Baat" address on Sunday, the Prime Minister reiterated that the "perpetrators and conspirators" of the Pahalgam attack will be "served with the harshest response".

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday (April 29) granted the Indian Armed Forces "complete operational freedom" to respond to the recent terror attack in Jammu and Kashmir's Pahalgam which killed 26 civilians last week.

The 90-minute meeting was attended by Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, National Security Advisor Ajit Doval, Chief of Defence Staff General Anil Chauhan, and the three service chiefs — Army Chief General Upendra Dwivedi, Navy Chief Admiral Dinesh K Tripathi, and Air Chief Marshal Amar Preet Singh.

Congress gives opportunities to BJP to attack it:

“Is anyone really surprised that Congress and Pakistan are speaking the same language?” BJP IT cell chief Amit Malviya posted along with a collage of pictures and comments made by Congress leaders.

The collage was titled: “Congress chooses terror over truth”.

“Saifuddin Soz, a former Union Minister and senior Congress leader, wants India to ignore all evidence of Pakistan’s involvement in the Pahalgam massacre and simply accept Pakistan’s word,” Malviya wrote.

“He has most certainly exceeded even the expectations of the Pakistani deep state with such brazen advocacy.

Pakistan worship is in the Congress’s blood.”

Malviya was responding to a video in which Soz had stressed the importance of water for the people of Pakistan, appearing to oppose Modi Govt's decision.

“If the river water cannot be diverted, the state of Punjab and Jammu and Kashmir will be totally submerged,” Soz is purportedly heard saying in the video.

“...If Pakistan takes a stand that they are not involved in the Pahalgam attack, then we should accept Pakistan’s word.”

Former Union leader and BJP spokesman Ravi Shankar Prasad too targeted these comments, claiming Islamabad was using them to defame India.

He asked why the Congress leadership had not acted against these leaders.

“Do Rahul Gandhi and Mallikarjun Kharge have no control over their party? Or did both of them make pro forma comments while allowing others the freedom to speak as they wished?” Prasad said.

"We have been doing this dirty work for ..... three decades" -- Pakistan left red-faced :::: Bharat has much higher defence capabilities and greater numbers to take on its 'western neighbour'

A 'forever' war between India and Pakistan reignited !!

A series of meetings took place at the top level. Defence Minister Rajnath Singh briefed Prime Minister Narendra Modi more than during the last four-five days.

Army chief Gen Upendra Dwivedi visited Srinagar and Udhampur and took stock of the situation.

Now in terms of preparedness and strengths and weaknesses between both India and Pakistan.

Bharat has an active troop strength of 12 lakh officials and personnel.

**Pakistan has about 5 lakh officers and personnel

*** 1.5 lakh active air force personnel with India and Pakistan has only 70,000.

Indian naval strength is 75,000 where as Pakistan has about 30,000

India has about 3740 total battle tanks, Pakistan has about 2500

Reports say Pakistani army is moving its radar systems to forward locations in the Sialkot sector to detect possible Indian airstrikes.

Electronic warfare detachments of the Pakistani army are also being deployed to forward locations to detect Indian movements opposite the Ferozepur sector.

In terms of combat capabilities / fighter jets -- India has 730 of them while Pakistan has only 450.

Security agencies have launched a massive anti-terror operation across the state, executing coordinated raids, detaining hundreds of suspects and terror sympathisers, as they search for the perpetrators of the Pahalgam carnage, which also involved a local terrorist. Authorities have also destroyed several homes of active terrorists in the valley as the crackdown intensifies.

Pakistan has been left red-faced after its defence minister made a striking admission regarding their involvement with terrorist groups.

"We have been doing this dirty work for United States for 3 decades," said Khwaja Asif when questioned about Pakistan's role.

The Pahalgam attack has changed the game in more ways than one.  Bharat, that is India, of the Hindu majority -- has learnt lessons from the trauma and bitterness of the past.

It goes without stating that India's "past" continues to reverberate in its defence, strategic and foreign policies.  In circa 2025; Muslims may be of very much relevance for India. But Pakistan is not.

The real issue is -- how could a rising India interact vis-a-vis its battle against terrorism with the rest of the world.
