IG Bastar P Sundarraj and other officials inspect the bodies of 27 naxals that were neutralised by the DRF in an encounter in the forest area of Abujhmad in Narayanpur on 21st May.
A key Naxal leader Basava Raju was one of those killed in the encounter.
Chhattisgarh DGP Arun Dev Gautam said: "All of them (neutralised Naxals) have been identified. There will be a press briefing in Raipur.
You know very well who Basava Raju (Naxal leader) was. He was the topmost leader of Naxalism...".
"This is the resolve of our Home Minister (Amit Shah). It is good if it happens before that," he says on the eradication of Naxalism from all over India by 31st March 2026
On CPI (Maoist) general secretary Nambala Keshava Rao alias Basavaraju, who was killed in the Narayanpur encounter, IG Bastar P Sundarraj says,
"...CPI (Maoist) general secretary Nambala Keshava Rao alias Basavaraju, who was killed in the encounter, was active in Naxalite activities for the last 40-45 years. For the past two to three years, he was working as the general secretary of CPI (Maoist)...
We have information that CPI (Maoist) general secretary Nambala Keshava Rao alias Basavaraju was a BTech graduate...He was directly or indirectly involved in more than 200 naxalite activities...
He was the Commander in Chief of the Central Military Commission (CMC) of the Maoists..."
The encounter took place at Narayanpur.
IG Bastar P Sundarraj also said:
"...The search operation is underway... The security forces carried out this operation very tactically, which resulted in the death of CPI (Maoist) general secretary Nambala Keshava Rao alias Basavaraju...
This is a great achievement for the security forces...
Peace and normalcy will be restored in the area and the people of the country hope that Naxalism will be eradicated.
Peace and normalcy will prevail in the area..."
Sundarraj also said: "...A total of 27 bodies of Naxalites, including CPI (Maoist) general secretary Nambala Keshava Rao alias Basavaraju, have been recovered in an encounter between security forces and Naxalites in the forest area of Abujhmad in Narayanpur...
Ammunition and weapons have also been recovered from the encounter site... CPI (Maoist) general secretary Nambala Keshava Rao alias Basavaraju, who was killed in the encounter, was active in Naxalite activities for the last 40-45 years...
Union Home Minister Amit Shah said that the operation Black Forest was a "landmark achievement" in the battle to eliminate Naxalism.
Security forces could neutralize 27 dreaded Maoists in an operation in Narayanpur, Chhattisgarh.
The neutralized 27 dreaded Maoists includes Nambala Keshav Rao, alias Basavaraju, the general secretary of CPI-Maoist, topmost leader, and the backbone of the Naxal movement.
This is the first time in three decades of Bharat's battle against Naxalism that a general secretary-ranked leader has been neutralized by our forces
