India to deploy more air defence systems

In response to repeated aerial attacks, Armed Forces will deploy additional air defence systems.

The systems are capable of intercepting targets over 70 km away. With more cross-border attacks anticipated, the forces are fully prepared to respond.

India abstains from voting on IMF bailout for Pakistan, cites its 'poor track record'

India pointed out that rewarding continued sponsorship of cross-border terrorism sends a dangerous message to the global community, exposes funding agencies and donors to reputational risks, and makes a mockery of global values, it said.

"While the concern that fungible inflows from international financial institutions, like the IMF, could be misused for military and state-sponsored cross-border terrorist purposes resonated with several member countries, the IMF response is circumscribed by procedural and technical formalities," it said.

This is a serious gap highlighting the urgent need to ensure that moral values are given appropriate consideration in the procedures followed by global financial institutions, it said.

India stressed that Pakistan's high debt burden, a result of these repeated bailouts, paradoxically makes it a "too big to fail" debtor for the IMF.

India-Pakistan tensions:

House in Punjab catches fire after drone debris falls on it

Three people were injured after their house caught fire after debris from a neutralised Pakistani drone fell on it in Punjab's Firozpur.

New Delhi's decision has a significance of its own as it came amid escalating tensions between the two countries following India’s recent military strikes against terror infrastructures in Pakistan and Pakistan-Occupied Kashmir.

The Indian armed forces had acted as part of the now highly popular Operation Sindoor in retaliation against Pahalgam terror attack by Pakistani militant groups.

India has abstained from voting on the International Monetary Fund’s (IMF) proposed $1.3 billion bailout package for Pakistan, citing Islamabad’s “poor track record” in effectively utilising previous financial aid.

At the IMF board meeting held on May 9 in Washington, India flagged concerns over Pakistan’s repeated failure to meet conditions attached to IMF assistance.

India flagged the Pakistan chapter of the IMF Report on Evaluation of Prolonged Use of IMF Resources.

The report noted that "there was a widespread perception that political considerations have an important role to play in the IMF lending to Pakistan. As a result of repeated bailouts, Pakistan’s debt burden is very high, which paradoxically makes it a too-big-to-fail debtor for the IMF."

India’s position also pointed to the widespread perception that political considerations have influenced IMF lending to Pakistan, raising questions about the effectiveness and end-use of the funds.

The Modi Govt has consistently argued that financial aid to Pakistan indirectly supports military intelligence operations and

.... terrorist groups such as Lashkar-e-Taiba and Jaish-e-Mohammed, which have orchestrated attacks on Indian soil.

Sirens went off in Jammu for a second consecutive day as Pakistan began shelling in parts of Jammu and Kashmir, including Poonch and Uri.

Blasts were heard in Jammu, and the city witnessed blackout for a second day. Meanwhile, amid escalating tensions, Prime Minister Narendra Modi chaired a high-level security meeting with the chiefs of Army, Navy and Air Force.

On Thursday, May 8th, Pakistan launched a series of missile and drone attacks targeting several regions in India, including Jammu, Rajasthan, and Punjab. All incoming threats were successfully thwarted by India.
