He is 'Bose', but new Bengal Guv hails from Kerala

New Delhi

The centre has appointed former bureaucrat C.V. Ananda Bose as new Governor of West Bengal.

The 'Bose' in his name is not a surname as Bengalis generally know. It is said
the new Governor at Kolkata's historic Raj Bhavan was named 'Bose' by his father, who was a freedom fighter.

Of course, the inspiration was the legendary freedom fighter and one of the best known icons Bengal, apparently after Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose.

As an IAS officer, Ananda Bose is perhaps best known for his housing project in Kerala called Nirmithi Kendra.

The project promoted environment-friendly construction and was also cost effective and had attained

appreciation at the global stage.

The project was kicked off in 1989 by Dr C.V. Ananda Bose, who is also a housing expert for the practice and

propagation of Cost Effective and Environment Friendly construction techniques.

Bose is Chairman of the Habitat Alliance, in consultative status with the UN and was member of the UN Habitat

Governing Council.

Bose has worked as District Collector, and Principal Secretary and Additional Chief Secretary in various ministries such as Education, Forest and Environment, Labour, and General Administration.

The United Nations has selected his initiatives as 'Global Best Practice' four times. The Government of India awarded him the National (Special) Habitat award.

He was the Head of the Supreme Court Committee on the treasures of Sree Padmanabhaswamy temple.

A sincere student in his young days, Bose is a prolific writer and has published 32 books in English, Malayalam and Hindi including novels, short stories, poems and essays.

The office of West Bengal had fallen vacant as Jagdeep Dhankar moved to Delhi as the new Vice

President of India and chairman of the Rajya Sabha.

An IAS officer from the 1977 batch, Bose, will replace La Ganesan.

Bose was appointed adviser to the Meghalaya government in 2018. Bose had also

headed the Supreme Court Committee on the treasures of the Sree Padmanabhaswamy temple in Thiruvananthapuram.

The District Tourism Promotion Council started by Bose in 1986 and replicated by the Government of Kerala in all the districts in the state, has been the nodal institution behind making Kerala God's own country. The national tourism policy recommends that this institution be replicated in all districts in the country.

During his short period as West Bengal Governor, La Ganesan had courted controversy

when the state Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee visited Chennai for Ganesan's family function. Ganesan is

also the Governor of Manipur state in the northeast.

In the northeast Assam Governor Jagdish Mukhi is holding the additional charge of

Nagaland too while Arunachal Pradesh Governor ex-Brogadier B D Mishra is also holding

additional charge of the Governor of Meghalaya.

Many key BJP leaders from Bengal  say Mamata has lost her popularity in recent months.

The BJP, which won 18 seats in 2019 Lok Sabha polls from Bengal, is

now eyeing major improvement in the 2024 polls. Some BJP leaders in West Bengal

did not approve Mamata Banerjee's visit to Chennai.

The Trinamool Congress and Mamata Banerjee's personal relationship with Governor Dhankhar

over multiple issues including the post poll violence of 2021.

West Bengal's electoral history is quite known for violence, chaos and often proxy voting.

PM Modi wants 400 seats so that the "Congress cannot put a Babri lock on Ram temple" ::: Namo makes strongest pitch perhaps for 400 plus !!

He knows how to put it across...He knows how to make maximum use of what he says:   “Think about your future. I don’t want any community to...
