Spree of senseless violence continues in Manipur :::: 4 Naga civilians killed along IT Road, NPO calls shutdown of shops in Senapati

Naga Public Organisation (NPO) calls shutdown of shops in Senapati. 

One missing, another injured, Four Naga civilians killed along IT Road.  

The incident has triggered anger and tension in parts of Kangpokpi, Senapati districts and surrounding areas.

The killings come 106 days after six Liangmai Naga civilians were abducted and subsequently killed following the May 13 violence in Kangpokpi district.

Four Naga civilians were killed, one injured and another reported missing after suspected Kuki armed groups allegedly attacked Naga civilians along the Imphal-Tamei (IT) Road under Kangpokpi police station in Manipur on Thursday (Aug 27) morning. 

The incident occurred at around 8:30 am between Makui Ashang and Thanamba Naga.

All four victims were understood to have been shot at point-blank range and killed on the spot during the attack. 

The victims have been identified as 

1. Tadsongbou Ringkangmai – 

Founder and Principal of Right Path School, T. Khullen.

2. Mariakdibou Wijunamai – Executive Member, Makui Youth Club

3. Japou MK – Student Leader, Thonglang Akutpa

4. Anil Wijunamai – Executive Member, Makui Youth Club

5. Gaikamang Ringkangmai – Injured 

6. Wisobou Charenamai – Chairman, Chawangkining Village Authority, who is still missing.

Following the killings, the Naga People’s Organisation (NPO) called for the immediate shutdown of all shops and business establishments in Senapati district headquarters town in protest against the killing of the four Naga civilians along the IT Road. 

The gruesome killing took place hours after Chief Minister Y Khamchand Singh called on Union Home Minister Amit Shah in Delhi and invited him to visit the state. The violence-hit state is bound for polls by March next year along with UP, Uttarakhand, Punjab and Goa.

"We discussed a wide range of issues concerning Manipur. The Hon'ble Home Minister assured me that the Central Government will fulfil the wishes and aspirations of the people of the State. I invited Shri Amit Shah ji to visit the State and he has agreed to visit Manipur in the first week of October to lay the foundation stone for the new Senapati Medical College...," the Chief Minister wrote on X.

He also tweeted saying Amit Shah "gave a patient hearing" to all the issues relating to the state and lauded "our Government for successfully resuming the Imphal-Dimapur-Guwahati bus service and ensuring free movement along National Highway-2."  

This incident is certainly a big setback for the BJP-led Govt in the state.
