'It was a Left conspiracy....to ignore valiant Indian history against Mughal kings," says Himanta

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma was at his usual charm at a media interaction in Delhi on Saturday, Nov 19 evening and said over the decades there was deliberate Left conspiracyto show indigenous Indian rulers and generals in poor light.

"Mughals never conquered northeast India...Assam and south India...Therefore, Indian history needs to be rewritten because Left historians have distorted it," Sarma said while presenting a prelude to three-day mega event being organised at Vigyan Bhavan here wherein rich tributes wouldbe paid to Assam's iconic medieval history hero Lachit Barphukan.

He said the Left-backed historians have made it appear as if Mughal emperors conquered 'entire India'.

"...This was never the case," he said.

Asked why the Congress party which ruled for a long period both in Delhi and in Assam did nothighlight the contributions of people like Lachit Barphukan, sarcastically he said, "Rahul babako poochne padega (Maybe we have to ask Rahul Gandhi)".

To a recent row on Rahul's recent remarks on Veer Savarkar, he said, "Woh pap har rahen haen...(Rahul Gandhi is only committing a sin)".

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Saturday accused Congress leader Rahul Gandhi of committing a "sin" by attacking Veer Savarkar and said those who have made no contribution to the country should not question freedom fighters.

"Savarkar spent as many as 26 years in jail, those who are questioning him should tell us first and examine themselvesabout what they have done for the country. It is a sin to question Savarkar's contribution, Rahul Gandhi should not do this,"said Sarma, a former Congressman in Assam.

He said it is sad that Indian rulers and dynasties from Assam and also in South and other parts of the countrylike Cholas have been ignored and neglected in Indian history books penned by the Left historians.

"It is said...that today I have to be the first Chief Minister in Assam to speak on these lines onour heroes like Lachit Barphukan," Sarma said.
