RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat says Sangh asked him to continue beyond 75, will step down if told
Bhagwat said the organisation 'extracts work till the last drop of blood from its ' and maintained that there had not yet been a situation in the RSS's history where someone had to be retired.
“There is no election to the post of RSS chief. Regional and divisional heads appoint the chief. Generally, it is said that after turning 75, one should work without holding any post,” Bhagwat said.
“I have completed 75 years and informed the RSS, but the organisation asked me to continue working.
He also said the Sangh’s work was about inculcating “sanskar” (values) and not campaigning.
"We have lagged behind in promoting ourselves. Excessive campaigning leads to publicity and then arrogance. One needs to protect oneself from it. Publicity should be like rainfall, adequate in timing and quantity," he said, adding that the RSS was carrying out outreach initiatives.
Whenever the RSS asks me to step down, I will do so, but retirement from work will never happen,” he added.
In all these ..... What's Mohan Bhagwat's "small and big picture message" for BJP and PM Modi ???
Is he suggesting ---- whoever big and how much popular PM Narendra Modi would be -- if RSS says --"Your time is up ...and Modi will have to go".
The fact of the matter is Timing of RSS chief statement comes in Feb 2026. This is just a few days before Bangladesh polls and over a year before assembly elections in Uttar Pradesh. The most populated Indian state sends 80 MPs. But more importantly, it is a state that is ruled by Yogi Adityanath.
From 2027 when Modi and Bhagwat will be 77: Yogi will push his case much harder to win the state polls in 2027, parliamentry polls in 2029 with a grand show in UP.
Pa
And after 2027 -- Yogi will also try harder to make hinself a bigger player for 2029 polls -- that is for prime ministership.
So it had to be studied on whether Bhagwat is already trying to make a smooth pitch for Yogi.
Given the past situations
Bhagwat said situations could be supportive or adverse and there was no need to dwell excessively on them.
“What we need to think about is finding solutions rather than focusing on problems. As long as truth does not come forward, illusion remains effective,” he said.
In a lighter remark, Bhagwat said the organisation “extracts work till the last drop of blood from its volunteer” and added that there had not yet been a situation in the RSS’s history where someone had to be retired.
That way .... Team Modi has changed certain elements of the game. It all may actually end up altering the nature of the game.
The recent political developents in a few states only prove a point that the ‘Modi Magic’ of 2014 is certainly on wane.
The perceived 'Modi factor' that helped it make deeper penetration in onetime Marxists 'den' Tripura normally does
draw die hard fans of the Prime Minister to vote for BJP candidates irrespective of that party nominee's performance
and locus standi as a politician.
But on ground things are definitely not very easy going this time around as despite
the Modi factor, the saffron BJP had to bow out of power in Hindi heartland states in 2018 but some key states are with Mokokchung.
People in general seemed to have developed complaint against his regime for farmers’ distress,
joblessness and economic policies – a combine of GST and demonetisation - that has actually led to choking
of cash flow.
People's expectations were too high and his promises were higher.
Some informal surveys by multiple teams ave shown that BJP's as well as NDA's tally could come around 270-300 if polls are held now.
Some leaders both in BJP and the RSS
have diagnosed the situations as wake up call and that the complacency must go.
Some have go totally silent while others have chosen to wait and watch.
Hence, Bhagwat's carefully choses words have special significance.
Another caustic refrain is -- if not 75 or even 77 ... 79 can be the deadline. This is refers to 2029 polls and by then Modi and Bhagwat will be 79. The next generation BJP leadership may come from a few contenders by defaut more than individual ambitionz.
They are Nitin Gadkari, PM Modi's cabinet colleague and a trusted 'man' of RSS chief.
A few years back Mohan Bhagwat, had made some news
by saying :"Leadership should have the
keenness to own up the defeat and failures".
Others in the race are Shivraj Singh Chouhan, Yogi Aditynath and Amit Shah.
