"Situation along Indo-Myanmar Border remains under heightened surveillance" ::::: Manipur's neutralised cadres were known for involvement in cross-border insurgent activity

Preliminary assessments suggest that the neutralised individuals were  known for involvement in cross-border insurgent activity.

Efforts are underway to confirm their identities.

A source in north east said:

"The situation along the Indo-Myanmar Border remains under heightened surveillance. Security forces are maintaining a robust posture and are in coordination with civil administration and intelligence agencies to ensure peace and stability in the region".

In a significant operational development near New Samtal  village, in Chandel district, Manipur, along the Indo-Myanmar Border on May 14th, 2025, a patrol of the Assam Rifles was fired upon heavily by suspected cadres.

Demonstrating exceptional composure and combat readiness, the troops responded in a precise, measured and calibrated manner,  resulting in the neutralisation of ten individuals in camouflage fatigues.

A thorough combing operation was carried out in the area, wherein, a significant cache of weapons to include seven AK-47 rifles, one RPG launcher, one M4 rifle and four single-barrel breech-loading (SBBL) rifles, ammunition and war like stores were recovered from the site.

Locals say the PDF gunmen were perhaps like "village police" in Myanmar.

Reports say the deceased militants were on PDF uniform and -- that suggests all those killed were from Myanmar.

The People's Defence Force (PDF) is the armed wing of the National Unity Government (NUG) in Myanmar. It was floated in response to the February 2021 coup.

The PDF was established on May 5, 2021, to "protect" civilians from the military junta and as a step towards a federal union. The PDF is reportedly funded through community and diaspora donations and community contributions.

Manipur experienced worst of ethnic violence for months starting May 3rd, 2023.

The state was placed under President's Rule in February when BJP Chief Minister N Biren Singh stepped aside after some ruling party raised the flag of revolt against him.
