How 'Israel doctrine' at play in Hindustan's 'Operation Sindoor' ?? Deterrence requires periodic, repeated strikes !! :: Did someone say "deterrence of 2019 by Balakot has worn thin"

There are many things India and Israel share. The BJP has always favoured stronger and more effective ties with Israel.

Narendra Modi and Benjamin Netanyahu friendship also hit headlines often. Now within hours the Operation Sindoor made global headlines and left Pakistan and many others shell-shocked; strategists are talking about one Israeli Doctrine at work.

The reference to 'Israeli doctrine' is actually in the context of deterrence.

It seems 'deterrence' for Pakistan or Pak-sponsored terrorists has been working rather psychologically since Balakot strike in 2019.

But the manner Pahalgam was undertaken; it shows the same 'deterrence' "requires" periodic and repeated strikes.

This is what the Israelis believe.

But some analysts say if it is assumed that 'hitting back alone will deter terrorism', there is a chance Pakistan or the terrorists may not really learn any lesson.

Well, this school of thought also says -- in such a scenario there may be "incentives" for terrorists to strike again and this may quickly spiral out of control.

Even as we ponder on these lines .... Congress MP Shashi Tharoor, who also served in the UN, says : "The one country that has robustly spoken in support of India, unsurprisingly, is Israel".

Ajay Bisaria, a former Indian high commissioner to Pakistan, told the BBC that what India did was a "Balakot plus response meant to establish deterrence, targeting known terrorist hubs, but accompanied by a strong de-escalatory message".

"These strikes were more precise, targeted and more visible than in the past. Therefore, [they are] less deniable by Pakistan," Bisaria says.

There is yet another critical part in the entire debate.  Everyone seems to agree that Pakistan -- though leaking wounds - will try to strike back.

But it also goes without stating that Rawalpindi has a track record of  encouraging the terrorists to strike at the civilians. So Indians or other civilians may be targeted both in Bharat and also outside.

Cowardice is a feature that lasts with some people for long !!

Balochistan National Party leader Sardar Akhtar Mengal

Pakistan has to worry more about Balochistan.

Still, let us presume it will retaliate.

But the sum and substance of all messages from Delhi or from Mr Narendra Modi on May 7th is --- it is for Pakistan and its army to decide.

India has made its message loud and crystal clear. There is no ambiguity any more.

Both Defence Minister Rajnath Singh and foreign secretary Vikram Misri have made it clear that the Indian forces have only (precisely) targeted only terror infrastructures.

In other words .... New Delhi can be telling both Islamabad (or even military bosses at Rawalpindi) --- if you want to 'retaliate' and escalate things ..... you may be welcomed or even most welcomed to do it.

But the operative part is that -- we will pay you back in your own coin but probably in a little higher denomination.

So, the onus is on Pakistan to take a call, if you want to do a five-paisa thing; we may repay you 50 paisa.

And if you do more ; we may pay you back one hundred paisa. The clear message is you will get back paid in your own coin. But that coin has to be decided by Pakistan.

India's successful Operation Sindoor has also proved that in military matters - 'waiting' is a game that ultimately comes in your favour.

On this backdrop what are the key lessons emphasised -- kinetic action is must when it comes to fighting the terror menace.

Notorious Jaish-e-Mohammad chief Masood Azhar, man whom Pakistan got released by Kandahar plane hijack in 1999-2000, said that 10 members of his family and four aides were killed.

There may be an issue about so-called delay or patience, the Modi government has shown while deciding the actions.

Remember; the take away will be 'timing' for such actions should not be decided by whimsical stance of any leader or public pressure.

As diplomat Ajay Bisaria has stated recently for such operations to succeed -- the forces would require three elements -- speed, surprise and secrecy.

Call it the 'Israel doctrine' or a 'desi' version - Moditva -- India had all three elements this time.

Moditva as a military doctrine hit terror hubs hard
