The Nagaland government - comprising NDPP-BJP and other smaller parties - has convened a Consultative Meeting on April 30, 2025 to discuss certain pressing issues.
Thankfully, the Naga peace talks is not on the agenda.
However, the meeting to be attended by all MLAs, Ministers and two MPs including die-hard NDPP fan yet Congress lawmaker Supongmeren Jamir will discuss Road Development with special reference to the construction of Foothill Road and Showba-Pangsa Road, Maintenance of Peace in the State in the wake of recent political developments and Inner Line Permit (ILP) issues.
Not quite surprising the controversial Free Movement Regime (FMR/ Protected Area Permit (PAP) issues is also listed as part of the agenda.
An official communique from Chief Secretary J Alam also said that various NGOs and civil society organisations should nominate at least three members each for the crucial meeting.
The order says it clearly that Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio and Deputy Chief Ministers, the Hon'ble Speaker, Deputy Speaker, and all the Hon'ble Advisors, and also the Chief Secretary, along with other senior officials of the State Government will be present in the meeting.
That's a real 'deflect attention' motive as the emotive issues will be in public space for discussions and this may push the students' agitation vis-a-vis job of 147 assistant professors into back-burner.
This is what the state government and 'advisors' around the Chief Minister presume.
Controversy continues to leave the saffron party red-faced in Nagaland.
The placard tells a story --- a story which would make Narendra Modi's 'double engine' go derailed !
'Hard Work is Overrated; Try Corruption' -- that's a genuine piece of genius idea in circulation.
The eloquent caption is one of the most powerful slogans in Nagaland suiting the contemporary settings.
In the past -- we have spoken about slogans such as 'People's Choice against the choice of New Delhi' - 1993 assembly election which favoured Independent candidate I Vikhishe Sema (backed by S C Jamir) and had ensured defeat of Congress veteran and the Dimapur-I candidate Hokishe Sema.
High time the 'mirror' starts working with those in BJP headquarters who decide the fate of Nagaland unit !!
Against the backdrop of the rally called by the Combined Technical Association of Nagaland (CTAN) and Nagaland NET Qualified Forum (NNQF), the state Cabinet in an 'emergency meeting' held on Monday, April 21 has decided to keep in abeyance its order to regularise/absorb 147 Assistant Professors.
The BJP is embarrassed certainly.
But the bigger embarrassment is for Chingwang Konyak's party and hence the April 30 meeting idea is a good move that way.
But how much of it will work in the favour of the planners and shakers and movers remains to be seen.
But another vital question is why should Free Movement Regime (FMR) be on the agenda.
This is an issue vis-a-vis national security and the centre will not yield to such arm twisting. This is one reason Home Minister Amit Shah has so far declined appointment to a so-called all-party delegation from Nagaland on the matter.
Even Mizoram which is being ruled by a non-NDA regional party seems to understand the intricacies well.
In Delhi, mandarins say the Union Ministry of Home Affairs has "reached out to Mizo NGOs" on FMR/ PAP and Fencing issues.
Hence, we can assure that the Naga civil society organisations and NGOs will also be taken into confidence in due course.
Then why this so-called politics around the FNR issue ?
One argument is the NDPP leadership is scared that if New Delhi takes ENPO into confidence by giving FNT; the politics of the master manipulation will be over.
Various Naga organisations in various parts of the state despite being instigated have so far conducted themselves in a matured manner and they all seemingly understand matters which are of national security concerns.
'The Maintenance of Peace in the wake of recent political developments' is also on agenda for April 30th conclave. This is an interesting item with scopes wide open to give spin.
As of now it is understood that the developments related to Khehoyi camp and that ceasefire was extended to NSCN (NK - N Kitovi faction) may be referred to while discussing this topic.
The March 22 episode wherein a bullet-less change of power took place in the military camp was a significant development. Peace have been maintained and due credit should be given to armed guerrilla gunmen and also the leadership of N Kitovi and even his detractors.
In philosophy; it is often said that -- either you can live rightly or you can live profitably.
The promoters of Bolero culture certainly know the difference between 'rightly' (or foolishly) and the so-called Profitably.
