PM Modi meets Joe Biden at G20 Summit in Rio de Janeiro, says 'always a delight'

PM Narendra Modi and US President Joe Biden were also seen shaking hands during the G20 Summit in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

"Always a delight to meet him," PM Modi said while sharing the picture. A video surfaced online, showing the two leaders shaking hands during the G20 Summit in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

PM Modi is on a five-day visit to Nigeria, Brazil and Guyana from November 16-21.

The Prime Minister landed in Brazil for the summit on the second leg of his three-nation foreign visit.

At the New Delhi Summit in 2023, India emphasised critical issues such as hunger, poverty, and global governance reforms, which align closely with Brazil's G20 agenda.

G20 Summit of 2023 made international headlines for being able to adopt an official statement notwithstanding sharp differences between key global powers especially Russia, the US and China.

G20 and Modi's Diplomatic triumph was also used by BJP for its election campaign in 2024 Lok Sabha polls.

India also initiated the Empowerment of Women Working Group, convened for the first time this year, to champion women-led development in the G20 framework.

Expressing gratitude for the reception, PM Modi wrote on X, "Deeply touched by the warm and lively welcome from the Indian community upon arriving in Rio de Janeiro. Their energy reflects the affection that binds us across continents."

This marks PM Modi's third visit to Brazil, following the BRICS Summits in 2014 and 2019. Last year, India hosted a landmark G20 Summit in New Delhi, where it achieved a significant diplomatic feat by fostering consensus among global leaders to address the Russia-Ukraine war in the New Delhi Declaration.

As the G20 chair, India also secured the inclusion of the 55-member African Union into the bloc, highlighting its growing influence as a voice of the Global South.

The theme for this year’s G20 Summit under Brazil's presidency is 'Building a Just World and a Sustainable Planet', with a focus on social inclusion, poverty reduction, sustainable development, and reforms in global governance.

Continuing from the priorities India outlined last year, PM Modi said before his departure from Niegria, "This year, Brazil has built upon India’s legacy. I look forward to meaningful discussions in keeping with our vision of ‘One Earth, One Family, One Future.’ I will also use the opportunity to exchange views on furthering bilateral cooperation with several other leaders."

Modi will be first Indian PM to visit Guyana in last 5 Decades !!

Following his participation in the Brazil G20 Summit, Narendra Modi will travel to Guyana from November 19 to 21 at the invitation of President Mohamed Irfaan Ali.

This visit will make him the first Indian Prime Minister to visit Guyana in over 50 years.
