On the Constitution Day celebration, Congress leader Tharoor says : "I just wish that we could have had opposition voices heard as well"

On the Constitution Day celebration, Congress MP Shashi Tharoor says, "Very fine, simple, dignified ceremony. I just wish that we could have had a larger commemoration where the opposition voices could also have been heard.

"I remember the 60th anniversary of Parliament in 2012. I was in Parliament at the time and I know we all had about three members of each party speaking on that occasion. I thought it was a good thing and the opposition's voice can also be heard.

"But for this ceremony, as it was, with no political speeches, just the President, Vice President and so on, I thought it was nice and dignified and well done and no complaints."

On protest in Pakistan, he says, "We all have to watch with some concern what's happening in Pakistan simply because it is a neighbouring country. But we must remember this is an internal matter of Pakistan.

In Pakistan, as PTI (party of former PM and cricket icon Imran Khan) convoys entered Islamabad for the party’s planned power show, incumbent Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Tuesday condemned what he said was an “attack by protesters”, which the interior ministry said resulted in the deaths of at least four Rangers personnel.

The incident comes as PTI convoys — plying roads countrywide since Sunday — gather in Islamabad for a much-touted power show to demand the release of its founder Imran Khan, among other things. In a statement issued by his ministry, Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi condemned the alleged attack in the strongest terms, expressing his heartfelt sympathies and condolences to the families of the deceased.

Tharoor said:

"It has nothing to do with India. We have to just watch because when something goes seriously wrong in our neighbour, it could have some effect on us. And so we have to keep our attention on what's going on...".

On Constitution Day, Rajya Sabha MP Sudha Murty says, "I am very happy and proud that I am born in a democratic India."
