Manipur security advisor, DGP visit Moreh :::: Indigenous communities to converge at Chadong village

Manipur: Indigenous communities to converge at Chadong village

Chadong Village New Site in Kamjong district is set to host the highly anticipated Manipur Indigenous People Cultural Exchange Festival 2024 on November 29 and 30.

This is seen as an effort to unite and strengthen the indigenous people of Manipur.

The event is being organised by the Indigenous People Forum Manipur in collaboration with the Manipur Tourism Department, reports 'Imphal Free Press'.

Preparations for the festival are in full swing, with ground levelling, the construction of stalls, a stage setup, and other arrangements nearing completion.

Speaking about the upcoming event on Saturday, president of the Indigenous People Forum Manipur, Ashang Kasar called upon all indigenous communities of the state to come together and participate in the festival.

He emphasised that unity among indigenous groups can only be achieved through meaningful interactions and mutual understanding.

He said that the festival will be an opportunity for them to meet, celebrate their heritage, and strengthen their bonds.

Kasar also highlighted the significance of the venue, Chadong Village New Site, which was established after the original Chadong Village was submerged due to the construction of the Mapithel Dam project.

He expressed hope that the festival would bring renewed optimism and opportunities for the displaced residents of Chadong and the surrounding areas.

The two-day cultural extravaganza will feature a variety of programs, including traditional cultural performances, a talent show, and a stall exhibition showcasing indigenous crafts, food, and other products.

Local villagers and Naga artists have also appealed to the public to attend the event, promising a unique experience of cultural immersion and unity.

The festival is expected to draw visitors from across the state and beyond, making it a significant platform for cultural exchange and community building.

The visit included a thorough inspection of the Integrated Check Post (ICP), the border fencing, and other security arrangements along the Indo-Myanmar border.

On Saturday morning, the Security Advisor and the DGP, along with senior officials from the Manipur Police, toured the border area to assess the prevailing security situation.

Their inspection covered the stretch between Border Pillars 77 and 78 and the unfenced sections between Border Pillars 79 and 80.

The team also evaluated the progress of border fencing being carried out by the Border Roads Task Force (BRTF), with officials providing detailed updates on the project’s status.

Following the field inspection, they visited the Integrated Check Post and the Manipur Police Inspection Bungalow in Moreh.

During their visit, they interacted with personnel from the Commando (CDO) unit of the Manipur Police. Discussions focused on the challenges faced by security personnel in the area, with the Security Advisor and DGP commending their efforts in maintaining law and order.

Later, a high-level security meeting was convened at the Inspection Bungalow in Moreh.

The meeting was attended by the Deputy Commissioner of Tengnoupal, the Superintendent of Police (SP) of Tengnoupal, the Commandant of the 5th Assam Rifles, the Additional SP (Operations), and other key officials.

The Security Advisor and DGP stressed the importance of bolstering security measures along the border and encouraged greater inter-agency coordination to address ongoing challenges.
