Centre to provide additional 15 companies of CRPF and five companies of BSF in Manipur :: Mass campaign for MLAs to step down

20 more CAPF companies for Manipur

The Centre has decided to provide an additional 20 Companies of CAPFs comprising 15 companies of CRPF and five companies of BSF in order to maintain the escalating law and order situation in Manipur.

The civil society organisations in Manipur are prepared to initiate a campaign of mass resignations by all Members of Legislative Assembly (MLAs) if their demands are not fulfilled within seven days.

“In order to maintain the law & order situations in the State of Manipur, it has been decided to provide additional 20 Coys of CAPFs (CRPF-15 (Ex- Assam) & BSF-05 (Ex-Tripura)} to the Govt. of Manipur with immediate effect and upto 30.11.2024 for maintaining L&O in the State,” the message stated.

The message also requested the government of Manipur “to work out the detailed deployment plan, in consultation with the respective CAPFs.”

A memorandum from civil society bodies highlighted the growing "frustration" among the people of Manipur, who feel that national parties have shown a lack of commitment to the state's security and welfare.

The current crisis in Manipur is characterised by ethnic violence, unchecked militant activity, and deteriorating law and order.

Civil society organisations in Manipur have issued a seven-day ultimatum to the government, demanding urgent action to address the ongoing conflict in the state.

The organisations have threatened to withdraw support from national political parties and launch a mass movement against political leaders if their demands are not met.

Representatives from thirteen organisations submitted a memorandum to the Governor of Manipur, outlining six key demands. They warned that failure to act on these demands within a week would result in the withdrawal of support for political leaders, regardless of party affiliation.

The Manipur Congress has appealed for the release of six missing persons suspected to be held captives since Monday. They are missing amidst the escalation of violence in Jiribam district where 11 militants were gunned down by CRPF personnel.

The memorandum was submitted at the Raj Bhawan of Assam as LP Acharya is also the governor of Assam. The CLP planned to meet the governor at Imphal, however as he was out of station, the CLP directly headed towards Guwahati from Imphal Airport on Wednesday.

Addressing the media at his residence in Babupara on Wednesday, former CM Ibobi and Congress legislators earnestly appealed for the release of six missing persons on humanitarian grounds.

Commenting on the six missing people which include three minor children and three women, Ibobi said if any untoward incident happens to them, the government should take moral responsibility. While suggesting that the six missing persons were held captives by other community, Ibobi said it is clear as to who is holding those people as captives and that to release them will be the wisest decision.

The 24-hour total shutdown called by 13 civil society organizations in Manipur, which began at 6 pm brought the Imphal Valley to a standstill on Wed. Nov 13
