Manipur: Can Modi Govt replicate 'formula Shiva' ... take all Poison and ensure amity

Manipur: Can Modi Govt replicate 'formula Shiva' ... take all poison and ensure amity

the gentleman needs to wake up : Mission Manipur requires him !

New Delhi

The mandarins in New Delhi sound clueless about ways to handle Manipur.

The prestige or reputation of the Double Engine Sarkar was punctured long back. Yet, everyone acknowledged things were challenging and complex.

The crisis in Manipur resurfaced coinciding with two totally different political developments - the downfall of Joe Biden's 'Democratic Party's empire'. Donald Trump incidentally is not only a right winger like Narendra Modi -- but the Indian Prime Minister did not waste time to ring his 'friend' too !

The second issue at hand in fierce electoral battle in Maharashtra -- where voting will take place tomorrow (Nov 20 - Wednesday).

Here too, the Team NDA and especially BJP have been making a lot of noise about the efficacy of Double Engine model.

But the Biren Singh Model so far has proved to be a disastrous.

From the US perspective, it was alleged earlier by the ousted Prime Minister of Bangladesh Sheikh Hasina that the attempts to carve out a 'Christian state' was made by splitting three countries India, Myanmar and Bangladesh.

So are the outgoing Democrats and their sleuths pushing things further in South Asia ?

Come what may, there is no alternative to good old theory that a Government in power has to perform. It has to ensure peace, harmony and tranquility and make it a point that people feel safe about their life and property.

The 'Jiribam fracas' has proved just the opposite. Biren Singh-dispensation has failed.

So, the Modi Govt cannot wash off its hands too !

PM Modi is traveling abroad pursuing his pet slogans around the themes - Inclusive Growth and This is Not the Era of War ! But he too cannot isolate himself from the problems in Manipur.

It's a fact of life that a die-hard 'election campaigner' has been avoiding traveling to Manipur and also Mizoram -- where local native Lushais share ethnic brotherhood with Kukis and Zo people in Manipur.

So what's the roadmap ahead  ? -- PM Modi himself and his Government and party BJP are already at the receiving end for Manipur flip-flop.

An alliance partner NPP has withdrawn support to the Biren Singh ministry and Conrad Sangma also wrote a letter to Modi's Health Minister and BJP's national president J P Nadda.

I spoke to a retired Meitei government official; he summed up the paradox in a tiny sentence - "....the cycle of time will bring Hope and the Despair and Negativity may rule the roost somewhere until then".

Unknowingly, his sentence made me think about Hindu mythology and the great God - Lord Shiva.

He is also called Neel Kanth. On this backdrop, I reflected upon what a key functionary in Delhi's corridors of power told me -- rather privately --

"If both communities Kukis and Meiteis - want to blame Centre to express their anger and would stop fighting against each other and ensure Peace; it will be a welcome development".

"If Peace comes at the cost of attacking PM Modi and his Home Minister Amit Shah, we will think we still won the battle and Peace has come so easily," was his refrain.

However, one point the central government seems sanguine about -- "We expect both the communities to shun the path of arson and violence and should talk to Centre to redress their grievances amicably".

It is everyone's knowledge that PM Modi has certain qualities in glib-talking. Most of the times he is convincing too.

That is why US-based geopolitical analyst Fareed Zakaria (certainly not a RSS product nor a great fan of Namo) says -- "It's a testament to his (Modi's) skill that despite being Prime Minister for 10 years, he's still viewed that way (as an outsider in elites-centric Delhi)."

When Hindutva icon embraces Pope

Many still believe he can charm his way in Manipur too. His admirers say - that's possibly possible but he has to take a primary step --

that is resolve the Naga issue.

He has to give a clear message that when it comes to public commitment he means business and he would deliver.

In other words, 'Kemchho Majama !!' can no longer  be the salutation between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his trusted Home Minister Shah. Together they have to deliver amity and harmony in Manipur first.

Those who know him, know India's Prime Minister as a man with guts and decisiveness; and hence it is time he should deliver -- first the Naga Solution and then Peace in Manipur.

The NNPG - the umbrella organisation of small and big Naga underground groups - should not feel betrayed just because Modi's Chief Minister in Kohima was given a freehand !

This NDPP-BJP regime should be held accountable for taking the Naga society on the brink of divisions vis-a-vis Eastern Nagaland. They failed to convince the NSCN-IM leadership that Peace is at the doorsteps.

Narendra Modi as a master of 'organic relationship' with mass Indians understand pretty well that it is much more important what/how you make people 'feel'.

The North East tribal Christians will be more than delighted to see a Solution to the long pending Naga issue.

Therefore it is thus the Salvation route for the Prime Minister vis-a-vis the anguish among the people.

The success in Peace in Naga hills as a Mission will have a salutary impact.
