Now, Raghav Chadha could lose his type VII official bungalow : A court says 'there is no absolute right'

A Delhi court said the MP cannot claim that he has an absolute right to continue to occupying the accommodation during his tenure.

The MP's allotment to a Type-VII bungalow in Delhi's Pandara Road was cancelled by the Rajya Sabha Secretariat in March. He was told that the allotment had been cancelled as Type-VII was higher than his entitlement as a first time MP and he was allotted another flat.

On Friday, the Delhi court vacated its order which restrained the Rajya Sabha Secretariat from dispossessing the AAP MP of his government accommodation. It said the allotment of the government bungalow is only a privilege given to him and Raghav Chadha has no vested right to continue occupying the building even after the allotment was cancelled, says 'India Today'.

Raghav Chadha was allotted a Type-VI bungalow in July 2022. In August 2022, he approached the Rajya Sabha Chairman for the allotment of Type-VII accommodation. He was then allotted a Type-VII accommodation bungalow at Pandara Road in Delhi.

According to the Rajya Sabha Members Handbook, first-time MP Chadha is entitled to Type-V accommodation. MPs who are former Union Cabinet Ministers, former Governors or former Chief Ministers and former Lok Sabha Speakers, are entitled to Type-VII bungalows.

Chadha was suspended from the Rajya Sabha in August till the Privilege Committee submits its findings on the allegations against him for forging the signatures of five MPs in a motion related to the Delhi Services Bill in the House.
