"Mera naam Jyotiraditya Scindia hae", Civil Aviation Minister tells Congress MP

New Delhi

Personal clashes and ego hassles also throw in episodes of humour and a satirical moments.

One such mild episode was when the Union Civil Aviation Minister was up on his feetin Lok Sabha telling Congress floor leader Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury that his nameis Jyotiraditya Scindia.

"Mera naam Jyotiraditya Scindia hae (My name is ....)", the told his erstwhile Congress colleagueChowdhury.

Mr Scindia on Thursday took exception to being referred to as ‘maharaj’ by Congress leader Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury.

This came after Chowdhury addressed the Civil Aviation Minister as ‘maharaj’ twice in the Lok Sabha while asking a supplementary question pertaining to some airport projects in West Bengal during the Question Hour.

Scindia, who was once a close associate of Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, quit the grand old partyin March 2020 marking the formation of BJP government in the state and the ouster of Kamal Nath-headedCongress ministry.

“The matter is that one ‘maharaj’ is a minister, another ‘maharaj’ Air India, is going to face privatisation,"Chowdhury said trying to take a dig at Scindia, who hails from the princely family of Gwalior.

“.... I want to inform him that my name is Jyotiraditya Scindia. Perhaps, he has some misunderstanding, and keep talking about my past again and again. But I want to inform him,” the Civil Aviation minister said.

Scindia's father Late Madhavrao Scindia was a Congress leader and his grandmom Vijay Raje Scindia wasa senior Vice President of the BJP and close to the leaders such as Atal Bihari Vajpayee and L K Advani.

Jyotiraditya's aunt Vasundhara Raje Scindia is also a former Rajasthan CM and a prominent BJP leader.

Assets worth Rs 1.77 Cr. of scribe Rana Ayyub attached by ED in money laundering case

New Delhi

The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has alleged that journalist Rana Ayyub, associated with a notedwestern publication, knowingly indulged in “Proceeds of Crime including its acquisition and possession"and thus assets worth Rs 1.77 crore has been attached under the Money Laundering Act.

The ED has, in its attachment order said, “Rana Ayyub has cheated the general Public Donors in a pre-planned manner and with the intention to cheat the general public donors”.

The order says that Ms Rana Ayyub’s scam started right from the time she collected the money and started withdrawing it from the savings account of herself and her family members.

The agency said the investigation makes it "abundantly clear" that the funds were raised in the name of charity in a completely pre-planned and systematic manner, and the funds were not utilised completely for the purpose of which the funds were raised.

The ED order further said that a Fixed Deposit amounting to Rs 50 Lakh was booked from her saving bank

account through net banking and opening a separate Current bank account and subsequently, funds were transferred from her saving bank account and bank account of her sister and father and did not utilize it for the purpose for which it was raised by Rana Ayyub.

Terming the funds raised and misused by Rana Ayyub as “proceeds of crime”, the ED order stated that Rana Ayyub knowingly indulged in “Proceeds of Crime including its acquisition, possession, use and projecting it as untainted property and therefore, she has committed the offence of money laundering as defined under section 3 of the Act, 2002 which is punishable under section 4 of the Act”.

The actions by Ayyub are considered scheduled offences under the PMLA.

While the Uttar Pradesh Police has not yet filed a chargesheet in the case, the ED has stated that if the assets are not attached, the department has reason to believe that this money would be siphoned off.

Sources say FIR No. 2049/2021 dated 07/09/2021 was registered by the Indirapuram Police Station, Ghaziabad Police, U.P, against Ms Rana Ayyub for the commission of offences under Sections 403/406/418/420 of IPC, 1860 and Section 66D of Information Technology Amendment Act, 2008 and Section 4 of Black Money Act.

The allegation in the FIR was that she illegally acquired money from the general public in the name of charity. The complaint was filed by Vikas Sankrityayan on August 28, 2021. Vikas is a founder of an NGO.

According to sources, the journalist had raised over Rs 2.69 crore through an online crowdfunding platform called Ketto for charitable purposes between 2020 and 2021.

Modi remembers Parrikar, Goa.... PM's 'journey' too had begun in Goa

New Delhi

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has reasons to feel nostalgic and emotional about Goa.

Hence, it was not surprising that during his visit to Goa for electioneering on Feb 10, Thursday, the Prime Minister said - "Whenever I come to Goa, I always miss my dear friend Manohar Parrikar. I am fortunate to be standing here because of the love from the people of Goa".

The statement carries a significant political message and also reflects the Prime Minister's personal gratitude for the people and politicians of Goa.

In 2013, it was in Goa that the then Gujarat Chief Minister was anointed as chairman of BJP's campaign committee. That was the first crucial stepping stone to make him BJP's prime ministerial face for the 2014 battle.

In fact, the then Goa Chief Minister Manohor Parikar was among the first few senior leaders who officially and openly backed hundreds of party workers' demand to make Modi the campaign committee chairman and subsequently the Prime Ministerial face.  Parrikar's move had also given additional impetus to the then BJP Rajnath Singh to pursue the matter more vigorously.

Notably, veteran L K Advani had skipped the Goa BJP National Executive meet. So did Yashwant Sinha, but

Sinha later gave different reasons for missing the meet.

In fact, Modi in his address at a party rally had spoken about 'Congress-free India'.

Thus, on Feb 10 at Mapusa, Goa, he again reasons to recall: "From this land of Goa, phrases like 'Congress-Mukt Bharat' unexpectedly came out of my mouth. Today these phrases have become the resolution of many citizens of the country".

The Prime Minister in his unique style also gave a new definition for the name 'Goa' itself saying -

"For us, GOA means Governance, Opportunities and Aspirations".

Mr Modi recalled his friend and former Defence Minister Late Parrikar fondly adding,

".....You Goans must have felt his absence even more".

He also lauded some of the milestones achieved by the state. "Goa has completed 100 percent

coverage in vaccination, Swachh Bharat Mission, Jal Jeevan Mission, electricity supply. When the

government moves forward with a 100% coverage target then all possibilities of discrimination on the basis of caste,

religion are eliminated".

Five years back in 2017, the BJP could come to power in Goa only in a post-poll alliance making efforts

after the Congress party had failed to make use of the opportunities.

The coalition partners and newly elected MLAs had put forward a precondition that only Manohor Parrikar

should become the Chief Minister. Thus after serving as Defence Minister from Nov 2014 to March 14, 2017,

Parrikar had moved back to the state politics as the Chief Minister.

Goa also had another episode in Modi's career way back in 2002 when his offer to resign as the Gujarat Chief

Minister due to communal riots was rejected by party's national executive.

Narendra Modi has truly not looked behind since then.
