“I want a solution ....," says Rio : "Nagaland Govt informed by Centre and Naga groups on willingness to bring Lasting peace"

“I want a solution because that will bring a new hope for the youth, the students and for the future”, - #Nagaland CM @Neiphiu_Rio .... for the first time he is showing an unprecedented 'clarity' of focus and priority.

The remarks from the Nagaland Chief Minister came at a critical juncture when the centre is moving ahead persuasively to arrive at a stage when it can ink Final Peace Pact with muliple Naga groups.

Addressing the inaugural session of the Platinum Jubilee celebration of Chakhesang Students’ Union (CSU) held in Phek on Tuesday, Rio said the Central Government and the Naga nationalist groups have informed the State Government about its willingness to bring about lasting peace in the State.

Expounding on political settlement, Rio said there is so much injustice in Naga society that there is a need to rearrange the whole State and also change the mindset of the people to become a better society and survive as a people.

Rio said Nagaland will soon enter into the election year as the State will go to polls by March 2022.

“While many candidates are working hard and developing their prospects for the elections and the general public are also looking towards the election period as festival, I am looking forward to a solution to the protracted Naga political issue because unless a solution is arrived at there is no perfect peace in our land and no peace of mind”, he said.

Showing Pragmatism !

“Unless there is a settlement and solution to the Naga issue there is no perfect peace in our land and no peace of mind…. in the process we got statehood and through this statehood we are surviving and somehow have been progressing”, said Rio.

“I want a solution because that will bring a new hope for the youth, the students and for the future”, he said.

Nagaland BJP reminds central leaders about 'Election for Solution' slogan

New Delhi

Two important BJP leader Nalin Kohli, party in charge for Nagaland, and Union Law Minister Kiren Rijiju visited the state lately and held crucial meetings with important stakeholders.

Both the leaders separately were briefed by state BJP leaders about the latest political situation particularly in the context of proposal for merger of NPF and NDPP.

Another important line told to the central leaders has been party's 2018 slogan - 'Election for Solution'.

"If we fail to deliver solution, our party will face tough times during elections in 2023," was the general refrain.

It was emphasized that no less than party general secretary in charge of Nagaland, Ram Madhav, had coined that slogan in response to persistent demand by various Naga groups and militant organizations that no election should be held in the state if no solution is arrived at.

However, things have changed since 2018 and certain key stakeholders willing for an early solution in 2018 have now developed 'cold feet' and the process has  been delayed.

The Government of India, however, is against the idea of blame game and thus has maintained silence.

"Our government in Delhi is firm about bringing an early solution and the final Peace Pact, but will not like to spoil the general consensus build up over the years," a source said.

Hence, despite provocation, the centre is going slow.

The BJP central leaders are keeping an eye on political situation in Nagaland especially in the context of conduct of leaders from NPF and NDPP. The high command is also not taking a typical antagnostic position against NPF in Manipur.

All these are linked.

Moreover, the BJP leaders including Union Ministers have stated that both 'regional leaders' Neiphiu Rio and T R Zeliang are known to the saffron party and they have contacts in Delhi political circles as well.

Next three to four weeks are politically quite important for Nagaland and the future prospects of Naga peace talks that began in 1997.

Therefore, it is understood Union Law Minister Kiren Rijiju's visit to the state was quite significant.

In Delhi, both at the administrative and political levels, concerned people have held vital consultations with NNPG leaders as well.

The centre has also taken note of the fact that three major tribes - the Lothas, the Semas and the Aos have got together lately and floated the Central Nagaland Legislators Forum (CNLF).

Important legislators are in the forum such as G. Kaito Aye as the Convenor and others such as Y. Patton as the Treasurer, Metsubo Jamir as the Finance Secretary and Mhonlumo kikon as PRO.
