Congress has made up mind 'not to come to power' in 100 years, says PM Modi

New Delhi

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday, Feb 7, claimed that by the conduct of its leaders, the Congress party often gives the impression that it does not want to come to power in next 100 years.

Speaking in Lok Sabha while replying to the marathon debate on Motion of Thanks to President Ram Nath Kovind's address, Mr Modi said, "Now that you (Congress) have made up your mind not to come to power for the next 100 years, then, 'Maine bhi tyaari kar li hai (We have also made up our strategies)".

Lashing out at the Congress on multiple fronts, the Prime Minister said some of the criticism and opposition was like "blindly" toeing the line to oppose his government.

"You can oppose me, but why are you (Congress) opposing the 'Fit India Movement' and other schemes? No wonder you were voted out in many states years ago...," the Prime Minister said.

"If we talk about 'vocal for local', are we not fulfilling Mahatma Gandhi's dreams? Why was it mocked
by Opposition," Mr Modi said.
Opposing a government 'blindly' is also anti-thesis to the functioning of democracy, the Prime Minister said.
He said the Congress has not only shared power with the communists, it has "changed" itself.
"In the past the same people had described governments under Jawaharlal Nehru and Indira Gandhi
as the one run by Tatas and Birlas".
Besides the Congress party, the Prime Minister also attacked the AAP regime in Delhi.

"During the first wave of COVID19, you (Congress) gave free train tickets to migrant workers to

leave Mumbai. At the same time, the Delhi government went around in slum dwelling colonies and

forced migrant workers to leave the city and provided them buses. As a result, Covid spread rapidly in Punjab and

Uttar Pradesh," the Prime Minister said.

Dwelling on his government's achievements, the Prime Minister said, "Today poor people of the country are

getting a gas and connection, house and toilets. They have their own bank account. But unfortunately, some people's (opposition) minds are still stuck in old days".

Touching upon farmers' issues, Mr Modi said, "We need to strengthen our small farmers. Our focus is on them.

But those who do not know the pain of small farmers do not have any right to do politics in the name of the

farmers".

"Those who ruled nation for so many years and used to living in palatial houses have forgotten to speak for

small farmers.....Why you hate small and marginal farmers," he wanted to know.

He also said, during Covid19 period India's economy was the "fastest growing" in the world and farmers still

produced record quantity foodgrains.

"The way India handled pandemic is an example for the world", he said.

The Prime Minister said 'Make in India' slogans have started irritating a section of Indian leaders as

successful manufacturing works would mean end to commission system.

"They are themselves Nirash (disappointed) and now they are trying to lead the nation into a stage of

depression," the Prime Minister said.
