Jaishankar, Rijiju slam Rahul: US rejects Rahul Gandhi's remarks on China and Pakistan

New Delhi

The United States has rejected Congress leader Rahul Gandhi's remarks that China and Pakistan have come together as very close allies due to 'mistakes' by the Narendra Modi government.

Answering a question, US State Department spokesperson, Ned Price, said, "I'll leave it to the Pakistanis and PRC (People's Republic of China) to speak about their relationship. I certainly won't endorse those remarks."

Asked to share his views on why Pakistan is working so closely with China or if Islamabad feels they

have been abandoned by the US, Price said, "We have made the point all along that it is not a

requirement for any country around the world to choose between the United States and China.

It is our intention to provide choices to countries when it comes to what the relationship with the United States looks like."

He further said, "We think a partnership with the United States conveys a series of advantages that countries typically would not find when it comes to the sorts of partnerships that China has sought to have around the world".

Rahul Gandhi's remarks in Lok Sabha sounding critical of New Delhi and eulogising China have been lambasted strongly by External Affairs Minister Dr S Jaishankar and also Parliamentary Affairs Minister Pralhad Joshi.

Dr Jaishankar took to Twitter and said, “From the 1970s, the two countries (China and Pakistan) also had close nuclear collaboration. In 2013, the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor started. So, ask yourself (addressed to Rahul) were China and Pakistan distant then".

For his part, Joshi lashed out at the Congress leader stating, "Perhaps Mr. Fake Gandhi is unaware of what former President Late Shri Pranab Mukherjee remarked about China".

Speaking in Lok Sabha during the debate on the Motion of Thanks to the President's address, Rahul had said, "The Chinese have a very clear vision of what they want to do.....".

Top BJP Ministers slam Rahul Gandhi

New Delhi:

Key BJP leaders and top ministers led by External Affairs Minister Dr S Jaishankar have launched a blistering attack on Congress MP Rahul Gandhi for his remarks that the Modi government had brought China and Pakistan together.

Parliamentary Affairs Minister Pralhad Joshi lashed out at the Congress leader, stating, "Perhaps Mr. Fake Gandhi is unaware of what former President Late Shri Pranab Mukherjee remarked about China."

Dr Jaishankar took Twitter and said, "From the 1970s, the two countries (China and Pakistan) also had close nuclear collaboration. In 2013, the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor started. So, ask yourself: were China and Pakistan distant then?"

"Rahul Gandhi alleged in Lok Sabha that it is this Government which brought Pakistan and China together. Perhaps, some history lessons are in order: In 1963, Pakistan illegally handed over the Shaksgam valley to China. -China built the Karakoram highway through PoK in the 1970s."

Taking a dig at the former Congress president for his remarks that there was no foreign guest for this year's Republic Day parade, Dr Jaishankar said, "...Those who live in India know we were in the midst of a corona wave." He further wrote, "The five Central Asian Presidents, who were to come, did hold a virtual summit on Jan 27. Did Rahul Gandhi miss that as well?"

Two other ministers targeted the Congress leader for his remarks during the debate in Lok Sabha on Motion of Thanks to President's address. Union Law Minister Kiren Rijiju said the Congress MP should issue an unconditional apology for his remarks on the judiciary and Election Commission.

"Not only as India's Law Minister but also as an ordinary citizen, I condemn what Mr Rahul Gandhi has said about India's judiciary and EC. These are vital institutions of our democracy. Mr. Rahul Gandhi should immediately apologise to the people, judiciary and EC."

Rijiju's remarks came on the backdrop of Rahul Gandhi stating that "The Judiciary, the Election Commission, and Pegasus, these are all instruments of destroying the voice of the union of states."

Parliamentary Affairs Minister Pralhad Joshi said former President late Pranab Mukherjee had in his memoir "written how Congress committed blunders by gifting territories to Pakistan and China and is responsible for India ceding crucial territories to both these countries".

"For how long will the Gandhi scion act ignorant about his party being hand in gloves with China. Does he forget how Congress sacrificed the national interest by accepting donations from China. Why did the Rajiv Gandhi Foundation take money from China every year?" he asked.

In a tweet, Joshi said, "Is this ignorance or willful blindness of Rahul Gandhi? China and Pakistan have been thick together, thanks to the policies of Congress soon after country's independence."

The Parliamentary Affairs Minister also maintained, "He (Rahul) said India is not a country. He said China's vision is very clear. Have you come here to support China? Tibet problem is because of Congress only."

Galwan decoded:  Chinese casualty was much higher than India' s 20

China’s losses in the Galwan Valley clash in 2020 were much higher than reported, with many soldiers drowning while crossing a fast-flowing river in darkness, an investigative Australian newspaper has claimed.

'The Klaxon' cited findings by unnamed researchers and mainland Chinese bloggers in the report and said they have declined to be named on security grounds, but their findings appear to “shed significant light on the saga".

“Claims of substantial Chinese casualties are not new, however evidence provided by a group of social media researchers, which The Klaxon has independently built on, appears to support claims that China’s casualties extended well beyond the four soldiers named by Beijing," it said. The report said it also showed the extreme lengths Beijing has gone to silence discussion about the battle.

The eastern Ladakh border row escalated after the Galwan Valley clashes on June 15, 2020.

down their lives in the clashes that marked the most serious military conflicts between the two sides in decades. In February last year, eight months after the deadly clash, Beijing announced posthumous medals had been awarded to four of its soldiers who died though it is widely believed that the death toll was higher. The Klaxon cited a report into the matter titled “Galwan Decoded" that it said has been prepared by a group of social media researchers.

Each side currently has around 50,000 to 60,000 troops along the Line of Actual Control in the sensitive sector
