The image makeover efforts a possible turncoat Riju Dutta has failed.
In the last few days Dutta, who has been suspended by TMC, has applauded Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari and said the gesture of the BJP leader after his personal aide was killed has "saved at least the lives of 5000 TMC workers". His observation was that unlike TMC leaders who did not call for calm after 2021 results, Adhikari this time had called for calm and peace.
This was a unique gesture, he said.
Earlier, in a video message after the BJP's victory in the state, Dutta had thanked BJP leaders for what he described as their "courtesy" and "protection".
"The BJP's central and Bengal leadership openly told me to continue doing politics fearlessly according to my ideology and beliefs and assured me that my family would not be harmed," he had said.
He also mentioned BJP MLA Ritesh Tiwari for extending support and claimed that many TMC leaders were keen to join the saffron party. Dutta also apologised for his past personal attacks on BJP leaders during political campaigns. Reacting to his suspension, Dutta said he had devoted 13 years to the party and risen through "hard work and performance".
"I am not a nepo kid. Yet my beloved party suspended me because I spoke the truth," he said in a social media post.
He further claimed that the party's disciplinary committee accused him of not appearing before it despite his having submitted a written reply at the party headquarters within the stipulated time. "Perhaps the suspension notice had been typed even before my reply notice was read," Dutta said.
The TMC on Saturday suspended three of its spokespersons, including Dutta, for six years over alleged anti-party remarks made following the party's defeat in the West Bengal Assembly elections.
A number of BJP leaders including newly inducted state Minister, Dilip Ghosh, has dismissed Dilip Ghosh's utterances as merely "internal matter of TMC". One BJP leader participating in a TV programme said there was a time likes of Riju Dutta used to "enjoy and take joy" when BJP workers were attacked. He said the opportunism of leaders like Riju Dutta must be opposed and added that many BJP workers and leader will oppose the 'entry' of such leaders.
Worse even non-political intellectual Bishwanath Chakraborty said Riju Dutta used to misbehave during TV debate and never gave him the respect of age and the fact that he (Chakraborty) is a teacher.
Bishwanath Chakraborty went onto say: "The BJP leaders conduct to prevent post-poll violence is to be appreciated. Had TMC come to power, I am scared (atankita) what would have happened to the state by now",
He further said the controversies about IPAC and the role of money is nothing new. "Even TMC leader Madan Mitra has said this earlier".
"Several opposition leaders had also alleged about the I-PAC role in collecting money and in running of the party. ...," he said adding,
"we used to place these questions during TV debates earlier also. But Riju Dutta used to attack us personally. He did not show respect to the fact that I am educationist".
"Amanusher moto o (Riju Dutta) amader akramon korto".
He maintained post the vote count; three kinds of TMC leaders have surfaced in Bengal --
One, -- who are claiming, we never wanted to become MLAs or MPs; it is Mamata Banerjee who made us so.
The second group, he said -- "There are leaders like Riju Dutta - who are claiming, we do not know anything. I-PAC has been running the show.
"The issue is if IPAC has been doing what is being said now, why leaders like Riju Dutta did not raise voice then. On the contrary, they attacked us when we raised those issues".
"Today, he is simply trying to pretend".
Then there is the third category who are trying to put the entire blame on Abhishek Banerjee.
