The Mamata Banerjee-led Trinamool Congress was launched by the RSS in 1997-98, Left Front chairman and top CPI-M leader Biman Bose has said.
In a podcast interview he said : "Even the Trinamool Congress party's symbol - twin flowers - was in effect suggested and recommended by the RSS and the BJP's national leadership".
He maintained there was a reason for suggesting 'ghas phool (twin-grassroots flowers) as TMC symbol because there was a calculation that in the future "a binary could be built up" in West Bengal -- the polity is a matter of choice between single flower (Lotus of BJP) and the 'jora-phool' of the Trinamool Congress.
Bose claimed there was a time when both sides the RSS or the BJP and Mamata Banerjee used to appreciate each other using laudatory terms. "The former chief minister (Mamata Banerjee) once said she has started knowing the RSS better ..... and the other side even called her Durga".
"No wonder after the mandate this year .. the same Durga declined to resign," he said. Bose also maintained in 2011 when the results came in on the counting day Buddhadeb Bhattacharya was in the party office.
"Buddha was here... he asked us for a car so that once he tenders resignation he will not use any official vehicle," said Biman Bose, who worked closely with both Buddhadeb Bhattacharya and other CPI-M stalwarts like Jyoti Basu and Harkishen Singh Surjeet.
Bose maintained Mamata Banerjee should have resigned and added :"Shobai bojhe eita
(Everyone understands that once the mandate has come and the state assembly is dissolved by due date; the MLAs and the cabinet also goes".)
"To understand this, you need not be constitutional expert. It is in the basic schooling," the veteran Marxist said adding, "I heard somewhere, she (Mamata) wanted to create a Red Letter day of her exit".
"You are appointed according to constitutional provisions, your tenure is for five years".
Asked whether before polls he had any idea or apprehension of such a huge BJP wave -- Biman Bose said:
"No... I did not think this will happen even after first two phases of polls. But later on we felt that the BJP's campaign was good and they could establish a good contact with the people. It was felt the BJP would come to a formidable stage".
