Viksit Bharat 2047 is commitment, not slogan: PM Narendra Modi after 4.5-hour meet


The high-level meeting, which began around 5 pm, lasted nearly four-and-a-half hours and focused on governance reforms, efficiency and long-term "Viksit Bharat 2047" vision.  


The Cabinet Secretary and NITI Aayog also made presentations during the meeting.


Namo asked his colleagues (ministers) to work with the vision of building a “Viksit Bharat” by 2047, stressing that the goal should be treated as a 

commitment rather than merely a slogan.

The PM said this is the time to look ahead, and deal much on legacy or on what has been done in the past.

Modi noted that while the government has been in power since 2014, the focus in 2026 must be on future goals and achievements.

He advised ministers to avoid unnecessary conflicts and remain focused on governance and delivery.

There is no room for delay or 'pendency' in government work or projects.  

Sources said the meeting also highlighted ministries that had recorded the fastest disposal of files, with an emphasis on efficiency and timely implementation of decisions.


On return from five-nation tour including Italy and Norway; the Prime Ministeron Thursday chaired a marathon meeting of the Council of Ministers that stretched for nearly four-and-a-half hours.

The deliberations focused on governance reforms, administrative efficiency, the government’s long-term “Viksit Bharat 2047" vision and the possible fallout of the ongoing West Asia crisis.


Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, who is on a tour of South Korea and Health Minister J P Nadda, who is in Geneva missed the meeting. 







There have been speculation that --

Performance review of ministries, Situation in West Asia, Impact of rising crude oil prices and Government’s future policy roadmap would figure prominently.

  Furthermore, PM is learnt to have referred to the ongoing West Asia crisis and its economic impact, directing ministries to take steps to ensure “minimum inconvenience to citizens”.


Sectors such as energy, agriculture, fertilisers, aviation, shipping and logistics reportedly received focused attention during the meeting.


A high-powered informal group of ministers led by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh is already monitoring the evolving situation.  Sources said PM Modi was also felicitated at a meeting for the successful completion of his five-nation tour and the party’s resounding victory in the West Bengal elections.







The Prime Minister on Thursday returned to New Delhi after concluding a five-nation tour spanning the United Arab Emirates, the Netherlands, Sweden, Norway and Italy.

PM during his tour focused especially on expanding India’s engagement in energy security, defence cooperation, trade and critical minerals.


In the UAE, India signed multiple agreements covering strategic petroleum reserves, long-term LPG supply, defence and shipping, with Abu Dhabi also committing investments worth USD 5 billion. 

Modi’s meeting with UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan came against the backdrop of continuing tensions in West Asia.







India and Italy  announced to elevate bilateral relationship to a “special strategic partnership” and committed to increase their annual bilateral trade to 20 billion euros by 2029.
