"Those who do not fall under CAA category are illegal infiltrators... They will be arrested and the new rule comes into effect from today," West Bengal CM Suvendu Adhikari announced.
Infiltrators held by police to be handed over to BSF for deportation, Bengal implements rule: CM
He said that the state government decided to operationalise a provision conveyed by the Centre last year regarding direct transfer of infiltrators to the BSF
Suvendu Adhikari announced the implementation of a mechanism in which infiltrators nabbed by the state police will be handed over to the BSF for deportation.
However, those communities covered under the Citizenship (Amendment) Act (CAA) will not come under the purview of the mechanism, Adhikari told a press conference at the state secretariat in presence of chief secretary and BSF chief.
They will be handed over to the BSF and hence the process of 'deportation' will also commence.
West Bengal police will arrest and detain "illegal infiltrators" and hand them over to the BSF, CM Adhikari said.
The BSF would then coordinate with the BGB, the border authorities of Bangladesh, for initiating the deportation process.
The BSF will speak to the BGB and take necessary steps to deport them.
"...We are ready to hand over 27 km of land for fencing, along with a few BOP (Border Outpost) land, and BSF infrastructure development land, says West Bengal CM Suvendu Adhikari, addressing the media over border security, in the presence of BSF officers.

"...After a long time, BSF and the Govt of India approached the State Govt to handover the adequate land to complete the fencing on the Indo-Bangladesh border. But the earlier state govt did not respond and denied. Due to their non-cooperation, safety and security of our nation and state are facing a very dangerous situation. Finally, a change happened and a true patriotic govt started its journey.
Within 2 weeks, our bureaucrats are now ready to hand over a portion of land..."
Suvendu Adhikari says, "Our state has 1,600 kilometers of fencing in 2,200 kilometers. For approximately 600 kilometers of fencing, we could not complete the fences at our border. There are 565 kilometers of fencing where the state government could have given land to BSF. But the former state government for political reasons, for the vote bank, and for the high appeasement agenda, they did not give land..."
