BJP replaces Biplab Deb with state unit chief Manik Saha as new Tripura CM

"Enough damage done," Trinamool Congress wrote adding, "So much so that even the top bosses at@BJP4India are fed up of his INCOMPETENCE".

The charge is not entirely without merit.

In retrospect, Biplab Deb had in his destiny the name, fame and glorious four and half years in power.

Blogger in rural Tripura: Polls 2018

He was actually picked by RSS pointman Sunil Deodhar in 2016-17 a few months before the 2018 battle royale.

Delhi journalist-circles know Biplab Deb as a shy boy from northeast, who actually was working for sometime as 'assistant' to a BJP MP from Madhya Pradesh.

In 2016, he was picked up by Deodhar as the BJP hardly had organisational presence in the northeastern state - where Bengalis are in majority.

The state like West Bengal had strong communist and Marxism leaning among the citizenry.

But after 25 years of power, the Marxists had developed their weakness and faultlines in politics and also in administration and hence the BJP - powered by its resources from Delhi and Sangh's meticulous man-management could easily take the battle into Leftists' camp and ultimately dethroned them.

BJP replaces Biplab Deb with state unit chief Manik Saha as new Tripura CM

New Delhi

Hardly eight months before state assembly elections, the BJP on Saturday in a fast-paced development decided to replace Biplab Kumar Deb as Tripura Chief Minister.

State unit chief and newly elected Rajya Sabha member, Dr Manik Saha will be the new chief

minister of the northeastern state where the saffron party had sprang a major surprise and

captured power in 2018.

Congratulating Dr Saha on his election as new legislature party leader shortly after Biplab Deb

resigned, Union Minister and BJP central observer Bhupender Yadav said under the guidance of

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Tripura will achieve new milestones in developments under

Manik Saha.

Earlier in the day, election mood set in the state of Tripura as BJP's 'first Chief Minister' in the erstwhile

Marxist bastion, Biplab Deb, tendered his resignation on Saturday.

Polls are due early next year in three northeastern states of Nagaland and Meghalaya besides Tripura.

Deb was state unit chief when the BJP had won the 2018 polls ousting the Manik Sarkar-led

Communists regime.

On Saturday, May 14, Biplab Deb submitted his resignation to Governor S N Arya.

“Party wants me to work to strengthen the organisation,” he said.

There were demands for replacing Deb last year as well.

In Tripura, BJP's ally for 2018 was Indigenous Peoples Front of Tripura (IPFT), which had won 8 of the

mainly tribal seats. It had contested only 9 seats. The Lotus party had contested the remaining 51 seats

and had managed to win 36.

Biplab Deb who visited party president JP Nadda and Home Minister Amit Shah for the last two days

returned to Agartala on Saturday.

The resignation follows reports of infighting although senior BJP leaders deny anything such.

Senior BJP leaders Bhupender Yadav, Union Minister, and Vinod Tawde are already in Tripura, sources said.

Deb might have taken a decision to quit after his meeting with senior party colleagues.

BJP' state incharge Vinod Sonkar and two observers will attend the meeting of BJP legislature party later in the

day to elect a new leader.
