#Nagaland leaders CM Neiphiu_Rio, Deputy CM Yanthungo Patton, UDA chairman T R Zeliang and Kuzholuzo Azo Nienu of NPF meet Amit Shah and discuss only "developmental matters",,,, disaster management issues etc !!
An informed source maintained that as Home Minister Amit Shah had a detailed discussion with Naga leaders including Rio and Patton in Guwahati last week and clear "instructions for a roadmap" was passed, there was nothing much to talk about again on Wednesday.
Core Committee expected to do 'more sincere homework'
New Delhi
Amid speculation on the possibility of imposition of President's Rule and a section of BJP leaders sounding displeasure at the saffron party's ties with the NDPP, the Core Committee meeting with Home Minister Amit Shah on Wednesday was damp squib and even a flop show.
A section of BJP leaders have already pushed the idea of President's Rule seeking that the Neiphiu Rio-led regime should 'step aside' as articulated lately by no less than state's deputy Chief Minister Y Patton.
An informed source maintained that as Home Minister Amit Shah had a detailed discussion with Naga leaders including Rio and Patton in Guwahati last week and clear "instructions for a roadmap"
was passed, there was nothing much to talk about again on Wednesday.
Thus the four leaders of the Core Committee comprising CM Rio, Deputy CM Y Patton, who is also BJP floor leader in the assembly and UDA Chairman,T R Zelang and co-chairman Kuzholuzo Azo Nienu on Wednesday, May 18, discussed only "developmental and disaster management issues" with the Union Home Minister.
Sources said - the Core Committee is now expected to do a "better and more serious homework when they are back home".
In other words - the Committee and, importantly, Chief Minister Rio, will have to meet NSCN (IM) leaders
especially the top guns and try to convince them to agree to an early Solution and a final peace pact.
"It may be a tough order...but sometimes tough tasks also ought to be done. That's the nature of life and
politics," a source told 'Nagaland Page'.
Much against speculation, Wednesday's deliberations with Shah remained confined to developmental issues and disaster management matters.
"Only Chief Minister Rio did the talking from the Nagaland government side.....and as Home Minister Shah
did not make any specific query on peace talks, the issue was not raised at all. It was a cordial and both sides
going happy half-an-hour meet," the source said.
Lot of hype was created by the Core Committee's latest visit to the national capital. This came close on the
heels of two rounds of meetings, peace emissary A K Mishra held with the ten-member NSCN (IM) delegation
last week.
NNPG leaders were also in Delhi and just a few days back former Chief Minister S C Jamir, also a bete noire of the NSCN (IM) camp, also had met Shah and held "fruitful discussions".
The limitations of the Core Committee vis-a-vis the peace parleys came to light on Tuesday (May 17) when reportedly peace emissary Mishra did not have much to talk to the panel headed by state Chief Minister Rio.
Mishra reportedly shared the government of India's stance that the issues of Flag and a separate Constitution were not negotiable.
Sources say since September 2021, Mishra has made it clear that he had nothing new to offer
on the table.
The 'deliberate delay' tactics were also irritants to many.
Veteran S C Jamir also has said that if there was no talking point, why delay the process when Framework Agreement and Agreed Position have been inked in 2015 and 2017 respectively.
The NSCN (IM) leaders led by V S Atem would also discuss the matters in detail with their other colleagues and the powerful general secretary Thuinaleng Muivah at the Hebron camp.
The so-called 'homework' the Core Committee is expected to do - in effect - could mean a lot; more so because the Government of India is still 'optimistic' of an early Solution.
Meanwhile, Chief Minister Rio and his other colleagues may continue to camp in Delhi for a few days more, it was indicated.
Notably, the Nagaland State Disaster Management Authority (NSDMA) on Tuesday warned that flash flood and waterlogging are likely due to heavy rains in the foothills and lowland areas of the state.
According to NDMSA, Dhansiri and Chathe rivers may have a large flow of water.
The state has received a rainfall of 191.25 mm in Dimapur, 351 mm in Peren, and 342 mm in Kohima in the past week.
In other words, these discussions with Shah were also important, the source emphasised.
