‘Pakistan An affront to the international community’
To preach after killing civilians grossly hypocritical: India slams Pak at UNSC
India slammed Pakistan at the UN Security Council, accusing it of hypocrisy for commenting on civilian protection despite cross-border terror links.
"I am constrained to respond to the baseless allegations of the representative of Pakistan on a number of issues.
First, India has experienced decades of Pakistani-sponsored terrorist attacks across our borders," Ambassador said.
India condemned Pakistan's presence at UNSC talks on civilian protection
Ambassador Harish accused Pakistan of sponsoring terrorism for decades
He cited recent attacks killing civilians and targeting places of worship
India launched a scathing attack on Pakistan at the United Nations Security Council, calling its participation in discussions on civilian protection in conflict zones "an affront to the international community".
India's Permanent Representative to the UN, Ambassador Harish was speaking at the UNSC Open Debate on "Protection of Civilians in Armed Conflict", which focused on threats to civilians, humanitarian workers, journalists, and UN personnel.
In a pointed response, Ambassador Harish said, “I am constrained to respond to the baseless allegations of the representative of Pakistan on a number of issues.
First, India has experienced decades of Pakistani-sponsored terrorist attacks across our borders.”
“For such a nation to even participate in a discussion on the protection of civilians is an affront to the international community,” he added, questioning Pakistan’s credibility on the global platform.
Referring to a recent incident, Ambassador Harish alleged that the Pakistani army deliberately targeted Indian border villages earlier this month, killing over 20 civilians and injuring more than 80. He said religious sites, including gurudwaras, temples, and convents, and medical facilities were intentionally attacked.
“A nation that makes no distinction between terrorists and civilians has no credentials to speak about protecting civilians,” he stated, accusing Pakistan of gross hypocrisy.
Germany backs India's war on terrorism, says country has right to defend itself
Germany condemned the Pahalgam terror attack in India and backed India's right to self-defence.
External Affairs Minister Jaishankar reaffirmed zero tolerance for terrorism.
India has a right to defend itself against terrorism, German Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul said on Friday, condemning the deadly Pahalgam attack that left 26 civilians dead last month.
The German Minister's remarks came at a joint press conference with External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar in Berlin. He emphasised the importance of maintaining the current understanding between India and Pakistan and called for a stable dialogue to resolve conflicts bilaterally.
“After military attacks on both sides, India, of course, has every right to defend itself against terrorism. The fact that the truce is now in place is something we appreciate very much," Wadephul said.
India has launched a diplomatic outreach after the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack that killed 26 people, as Prime Minister Narendra Modi has declared a “new normal” when New Delhi will consider any act of cross-border terrorism as an act of war against India.
Dr S Jaishankar, who is in Germany as a part of his three-nation Europe visit, in a press conference, reiterated India’s firm stance on terrorism.
“India has zero tolerance for terrorism. India will never give in to nuclear blackmail,” he said.
S Jaishankar made it clear that India will engage with Pakistan only through bilateral means. “There should be no confusion in any quarter in that regard,” he said.
Dr Jaishankar also welcomed Germany’s understanding of India’s position.
“We also value Germany's understanding that every nation has the right to defend itself against terrorism,” he added.
