Pankaj Udhas ... no more !! Mesmerizing voice ....humming "ek tu hi dhanwan gori.... and "chitthi ayee hai" left millions awe-struck

 Pankaj Udhas, the acclaimed ghazal maestro renowned for hits like "Chitthi Ayee Hai" passed away on February 26 after an extended illness.


Born on May 17, 1951, in Jetpur, Gujarat, Pankaj Udhas began his career with the launch of the ghazal album titled "Aahat" in 1980. Swiftly, he became synonymous with ghazal music in India.






The 72-year-old singer, who had a notable career as a playback artist in Bollywood films such as "Naam," "Saajan," and "Mohra," breathed his last at around 11 am. In a statement, the singer's family said, "With a very heavy heart, we are saddened to inform you of the sad demise of Padmashri Pankaj Udhar on February 26, 2024, due to a prolonged illness.”


Sharing the news of Pankaj Udhas' death on his Instagram, singer Sonu Nigam wrote, “One of the most important part of my childhood, is lost today. Shri Pankaj Udhas ji, I will miss you forever. My heart cries knowing that you are no more. Thank you for being there. Om Shanti.”

Taking to Instagram, Pankaj Udhas' daughter Nayaab shared a statement on Instagram which read, “With a heavy heart, we are saddened to inform you of the sad demise of Padmashri Pankaj Udhas on 26th February 2024 due to a prolonged illness.”


Soon after Nayaab shared the news of the singer's demise, his fans swamped the comment section and posted their condolences. A fan wrote, “May his soul rest in peace.” "I'm so sorry to hear of your loss, stay strong and please accept my condolences," another user wrote. "Deepest Condolences and Prayers," another user posted.


He died around 11 am at the Breach Candy hospital, a family source said. His last rites will be held on Tuesday. Pankaj is survived by wife Farida Udhas, daughters Nayaab and Reva Udhas, and brothers Nirmal and Manhar Udhas, who are also singers.

** Poetry used to come alive in his Ghazals. In number 'Chandi jaisa rang..'; the line "Ek tu hi Dhanwan hae gori baaki sak hae kangal" left millions mesmerized.

It appeared the words of youngsters. In northeast where Hindi was hardly a strong point -- there used to be mischievous efforts on the part of boys .... to do the translation.

One friend was particularly good.


He would, the line means : "There is tragedy all over, rest all are suffering from poverty ....... 


and only my girl friend is bountiful, wonderful and of course rich as well".
