BJP's counter to Manipur video, a large number of crime against women happen in Congress-ruled Rajasthan and Mamata's Bengal

The BJP has decided to take the battle into the enemy front. On 'crime against women' narrative from Manipur, the saffron party fielded prominent women faces including former Rajasthan Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje and also actress-turned-leader Locket Chatterjee from West Bengal.

In a dramatic twist in the tale, Rajasthan Minister & Congress leader Rajendra Singh Gudha says, "It is true and should be accepted that we have failed in women's safety. Instead of Manipur, we should look within ourselves that atrocities on women have increased in Rajasthan."

West Bengal | "I have already filed an affidavit in the Calcutta High court...," says BJP's Priyanka Tibrewal on the alleged incident of sexual assault by TMC workers of a BJP worker during Panchayat polls on 8th July in Howrah district

West Bengal ::: "They dragged me outside the polling booth holding my hair & threw me down the stairs. They also ripped my clothes. Later, I went to a nearby house to borrow clothes to wear. Had my husband not been present there they could have done anything to me.

He saved me. I have filed an FIR in this incident," says BJP worker from Howrah's South Panchala who claims she was sexually assaulted by TMC workers on 8th July during panchayat polls.

Earlier #WestBengal #DGP said that evidence shows that no such incident had occurred.

Former Rajasthan CM & senior BJP leader Vasundhara Raje says, "...A Dalit woman was gang-raped. It is being said that Police personnel were also involved (in the crime). She was speech and hearing-impaired. What will become of the state if the 'rakshak' becomes 'bhakshak'?"

"Around 33,000 incidents of rape have happened in Rajasthan - 22% of the cases of the country. Rajasthan has become the top state in rape cases. Incidents of crime against women are taking place in CM's (Ashok Gehlot's) home region but they are all silent," says Vasundhara Raje.

"The manner in which incidents are happening with women, girls, Dalits and businessmen is shredding the law and order (in the state). The highest number of cases of crimes against women have happened in Rajasthan".

" In 54 months, more than 10 lakh cases have taken place. More than 7500 innocent people have been murdered. 2 lakh cases of crime against women have been registered," she said.

With regard to West Bengal, where political violence is more often taken as a normal affair, BJP fielded Lok Sabha MP, Locket Chatterjee, who broke down during the news briefing.

Much to the embarrassment of Trinamool Congress leadership, she said, 'Women were stripped in Bengal as well. Who will save our daughters"?

On July 20, the first day of Monsoon session of Parliament, Prime Minister Narendra Modi breaks silence on Manipur but adds two Congress-ruled states Rajasthan and Chhattisgarh in his statement.

The house of Huirem Herodas Meitei, the main accused in the sexual assault case was burnt down by an agitated mob comprising mostly women

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh on the Manipur violence says, "I feel the opposition is not serious about the discussion on the Manipur issue. The government wants to discuss the Manipur issue. PM Modi himself said that the country is ashamed of whatever has happened in the state and assured strict action. Still, if the opposition does not want to discuss it only means that they are not serious."

Manipur CM N Biren Singh says, "People are protesting across the state regarding the incident and demanding the strictest punishment for the accused.
Accused number one, who was arrested earlier, his house was burnt by women yesterday. Manipur society is against crime against women.

They consider women as their mothers. This protest is to support the government to punish the accused."

Jaipur: "I want to say Rajasthan has been a place of great culture where women were given the highest respect but today's situation shows that it is the most unsafe state for women. The law and order situation has collapsed...," says Union Minister Pralhad Joshi

  1. "There is no point in comparing. BJP being in power at the centre should've taken corrective action in all three states now in discussion imposing President's Rule and taking control could have helped contain the situation that went out of control". -- K. Patil
