There are rules and precedents even in 'insurgency' movements.
It happens with every other things, like the mobile revolution too. The generation of elders that helped 'give birth and nurture' Naga movement is now being left behind by it !!
Once Late Vamuzo had said in a lighter vein in presence of K V Keditsu and T A Ngullie -- “Insurgency is like wife's anger ... if it is launched once, it can never disappear".
Nagas too have precedents and all that about their socio-political movement.
Naga militancy was always more than gunfight. Insurgency doesn’t simply control people and mindset; they control economies too.

The use of 'coercion' is thus a strategy to achieve the movement's purpose. -- Eliminating traitors and 'challengers' are accepted.
However; there is also a chance of a temptation. And it is that when a political movement stumbles, we may conclude that its basic principles and ideologies were full of follies and so have failed.
Others may say - the 'old ideas' no longer fit the new setup and new problems.
Such temptation may prove to be correct or wrong !!
And it is an old problem nevertheless.
Experts may even scream that --- what is needed is not better adherence to first principles but a wholesale reinvention.
Something could be louder, angrier, and more attuned to the grievances as well. But such a 'temptation' to draw a conclusion may be wrong.
Thuingaleng Muivah banked on rhetoric during his Manipur visit in October 2025 - including native village Somdal. But Aug 14, 2026 can be made a 'different' day !!
As a veteran and still the last surviving 'unity factor' in the NSCN-IM; he may surprise friends, foes and critics and aim at preventing further fragmentation of the monolith organisation he has controlled for so long.
Some Naga organisations are already on the verge of irrelevance. A popular body 'recently dissolved' its executive body.
In Delhi, analysts are keeping fingers crossed. Military commanders in north east are 'exploring' ways of dealing with a tricky challenge as 'women' are now on "duty" at crossroads and numerous entry points of villages. The propaganda machine too is working well.

Amid these; all eyes are on Muivah's 'Naga Independence Day speech. In Myanmar or somewhere in the hills and valleys of South East Asia; the Eastern Flank may also make some critical announcements.
But Muivah can articulate something essential:
- a coherent vision of what the Naga experiment as envisioned when NSCN was floated --- was actually all about.

But this reach out possibility does exist. But we can't say - the outcome !!
Eastern Flank has positioned itself as a breakaway faction, so a real “olive branch” before Naga Independence Day though less likely….But ethnic bond is always crucial. Tangkhuls are Tangkhuls.
…. They would not like these fissures be exploited so it could be a strategic move.
If Muivah reaches out, it would likely be
• A controlled message about unity or common purpose
• An invitation to return under the existing political line, not a renegotiation of fundamentals
• More likely aimed at preventing further fragmentation than at genuinely empowering the Eastern Flank…..
This is also a time of 'changing hands' - not guided by choice.
The 'age factor' is the trigger. Hence, the machinery remains and the future leaders may or may not inherit it.

The problems in NSCN-IM could be 'problems' in any political party like the Congress or even the BJP or even Trinamool. How ?
Four words -we have here work like 'four boundary walls'.
One, - The frustration
Second, - Inconsistency -- three - Populism (craze for headlines - thanks to tribe called journalists) and fourthly - Cronyism.
The Congress party does not know how to handle these. The BJP can handle the problems as of now but may fail to do so after two or three decades.
The Trinamool's fate is well known.

Amid these problems; I dialed a senior 'militant leader'. He is not from NSCN-IM but is keen for talks and an early Solution.
He says: " Every Naga is navigating a relentless cascade of crises, and hence one major challenge fades before the next begins".
Quite emotive and ear-on-ground type assessment. And hence cannot be ignored. The Naga militancy is a 'dream life' for many from the younger lot.
It, however, is a bigger challenge for the generation that grew up with it.
It can be a nightmare for them even to presume that what they have created could be destroyed or replaced shortly.
Coming back to Mobile technology - it is a blessing; and is a mixed bag.
Ask S C Jamir - he says -- its the most 'wonderful' among the science-generated toys. True, Mobile can bring families closer; help to improve health.
But its a nightmare when the templates are not understood and much more difficult to comprehend. Imagine what science can do and 'undo' to human.
Friends tell me of cases where relatives in a life-threatening emergency may delay treatment of the loved ones because the hospital required a form filled out on digital format.
