The decision to dissolve all party panels by TMC came within an hour after at least 58 MLAs elected on TMC tickets went against the official line and chose first-time MLA Ritabrata Banerjee as leader of Opposition in the Assembly.
While Ritabrata Banerjee has been proposed for the post of the Leader of the Opposition, Akhruzzaman has been named as the chief whip of the party. The names of MLAs Seuli Saha, Sabina Yesmin, Javed Khan and Sandipan Saha have been proposed as deputy leaders in the House.
The buzz around the internal rift within West Bengal's principal Opposition party, the Trinamool Congress (TMC), grew significantly louder on Wednesday as MLA Ritabrata Banerjee, who was expelled by the Mamata Banerjee-led camp on charges of anti-party activities, reached the state Assembly.
They claimed that he has the support of 60 of the party's 80 MLAs.
Here is more interesting news.
There seems to be no end to the drama in the TMC.
Three TMC MLAs had attended the administrative review meeting chaired by Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari in Nabanna.
In fact, it has been claimed that 18 TMC MLAs have attended the meet.
They are Javed Khan, Firhad Hakim, Nayna Bandyopadhyay, Kunal Ghosh, Ritabrata Banerjee (expelled), Sandipan Saha (expelled), Ashok Deb, Arunava Sen, Samir Panja, Priya Pal, Gulshan Mallick, Tapas Maity, Nilima Mistry, Abdul Khaleque Molla, Baharul Islam, Paresh Ram Das, Jaydeb Halder and Samir Jana.
"After careful consideration, it has been decided that all committees of the All India Trinamool Congress in West Bengal, as well as all its frontal organisations, shall stand dissolved with immediate effect," the party announced on its official X (formerly Twitter) handle on Wednesday afternoon.
The Trinamool said it will introspect and build the organisation afresh.
"The party will undertake a comprehensive exercise of introspection, performance review and organisational assessment at every level," the post stated. "Based on the findings of this exercise, the organisational structure of the parent body and all frontal organizations will be reconstituted and announced in due course."
"The party remains committed to strengthening its organisation and preparing it to meet future challenges with renewed vigour," read the post.
A letter signed by 60 TMC MLAs has been submitted to the Speaker endorsing Ritabrata Banerjee as the Leader of the Opposition. However, sources said, the rebel faction are not trying to break the party and have named Mamata Banerjee as the leader of the party in the letter.
At the centre of the internal crisis in TMC is its first-time MLA and Left import Ritabrata Banerjee.
He was one of the two Trinamool Congress MLAs expelled for "anti-party activities" on Monday.
Ritabrata garnered limelight as a student leader in the early 2000s.
He eventually was made the general secretary of CPI-M's student wing. He led the organisation for eight years.
The CPI-M also sent him to the Rajya Sabha. However, he was later expelled by the Left and went on to join the TMC in 2021.
