Namo's yet another Feather in the Cap.
Narendra Modi will have served 4,399 days as Prime Minister on Wednesday, June 10th 2026 becoming the longest continuously serving elected premier.
He inherited the leadership of the BJP as its prime ministerial face at a much challenging times. He changed the format of Saffron outfit's politics. The BJP became the national political hegemon, expand to newer regions, and attract support from myriad communities and parties.
Modi will have served 4,399 days as Prime Minister on Wednesday, becoming the longest continuously serving elected premier. India’s first Prime Minister
Jawaharlal Nehru first assumed office in 1947, won the first election in India in 1951-52 and remained in office until his death in 1964. Indira Gandhi, India’s first woman PM, was in office for a little less than 16 years, but in two separate stints.
Over the course of the past 12 years, the Modi government has managed to eradicate the once dreaded left-wing terrorism, revolutionise welfare delivery, build the JAM trinity and UPI, boosted rail, road and airport infrastructure, reshaped India’s defence and nuclear doctrine.
The regime "avenged" Pakistani terrorism, especially the Pahalgam terror attack, with Operation Sindoor in May 2025. Prior to that he struck twice - surgical strikes in 2016 and 2019.
"Yeh Naya Hindustan hae .. Ghar mein ghusey ga bhi, marega bhi"
The political journey of course has challenges and even setbacks at times. In 2024, a large section of voters in Uttar Pradesh actually rebuked him and his party. The BJP's Lok Sabha tally came down from 303 to 240. The detractors had their time as well.
London's 'The Guardian' wrote -- "Strikingly, there are some signs that the Hindu chauvinism Mr Modi rode to power may be reaching its limits.
The BJP was defeated in Faizabad, where the prime minister inaugurated a grand temple on the site in Ayodhya where a Hindu mob once demolished a 16th-century mosque".
It further said - "Reporters who visited the area and other parts of Uttar Pradesh ahead of election day found poorer voters complaining that Mr Modi’s focus on such issues was doing nothing to address basic needs."
Despite his expansion of welfare programmes, many feel left behind. The headline GDP figure and new highways may impress, and billionaires like Gautam Adani and Mukesh Ambani have prospered, but wealth has not trickled down.
It is also true Modi himself, the BJP and its parent organization, the RSS, have been keen on reviving political Hinduism.
All these got a real fillip -- first when Modi became the prime minister in 2014. He was never shy of Hindutva. In 2019 November, came the historic judgement -- giving the dispute site to Hindus for a grand temple at Ayodhya.
The foundation of a 'new assertive Bharat or Hindustan' was strengthened under Modi’s leadership.
The PM was clear. His Mission has been to re-establish India’s rightful place in the world with its thousands of years of civilizational history.
Well, Modi wanted to achieve all that not just as a nation that emerged after the British left seven decades ago.
In the new scheme of things, Hindi is preferred to English, the Indian laws are reworked giving them Hindi titles.
And the Hindu religion and culture get the upper hand on the socio-political platform.
Narendra Modi and his party have been in power since 2014. For the past 12 years, Nehru’s policies of left-liberalism has been challenged.
In 2024, Jan 22 marked a new chapter.
It marked the establishment of political Hinduism.
Electorally, the ruling BJP reaped benefits in various polls even as in 2024 parliamentary polls, the number of MPs in Lok Sabha had dropped.
In circa 2026, BJP controls 21 out of 28 states. The opposition Congress lost its voter base especially Hindus.
In Assam, Congress has 19 MLAs - 18 of them being Muslims. In West Bengal both legislators too are Muslims.
Is Congress paying a price because of its (especially Rahul Gandhi's decision) to keep away from the temple consecration in Ayodhya ?
